Title: Digging Deep
1Digging Deep
- But why do you call Me 'Lord, Lord,' and do not
do the things which I say? Whoever comes to Me,
and hears My sayings and does them, I will show
you whom he is like He is like a man building a
house, who DUG DEEP and laid the foundation on
the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream
beat vehemently against that house, and could not
shake it, for it was founded on the rock. But he
who heard and did nothing is like a man who built
a house on the earth without a foundation,
against which the stream beat vehemently and
immediately it fell. And the ruin of that house
was great. Luke 646-49
2Dig Deeper Than Doctrines of Men
- And in vain they worship Me, teaching as
doctrines the commandments of men. Matthew
159 - Then they understood that He did not tell them
to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the
doctrine of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
Matthew 1612 - Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test
the spirits, whether they are of God because
many false prophets have gone out into the
world. 1 John 41
3Dig Deeper Than Doctrines of Men
- As I urged you when I went into
Macedonia--remain in Ephesus that you may charge
some that they teach no other doctrine. 1
Timothy 13 - If you instruct the brethren in these things,
you will be a good minister of Jesus Christ,
nourished in the words of faith and of the good
doctrine which you have carefully followed. 1
Timothy 46 - Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole
households, teaching things which they ought not,
for the sake of dishonest gain. Titus 111
4Dig Deeper Than Family Religion
- Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. For
me to write the same things to you is not
tedious, but for you it is safe. Beware of dogs,
beware of evil workers, beware of the mutilation!
For we are the circumcision, who worship God in
the Spirit, rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no
confidence in the flesh, though I also might have
confidence in the flesh. If anyone else thinks he
may have confidence in the flesh, I more so
circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of
Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of the
Hebrews concerning the law, a Pharisee
concerning zeal, persecuting the church
concerning the righteousness which is in the law,
blameless. Philippians 31-6
5Dig Deeper Than Family Religion
- But I make known to you, brethren, that the
gospel which was preached by me is not according
to man. For I neither received it from man, nor
was I taught it, but it came through the
revelation of Jesus Christ. For you have heard of
my former conduct in Judaism, how I persecuted
the church of God beyond measure and tried to
destroy it. And I advanced in Judaism beyond many
of my contemporaries in my own nation, being more
exceedingly zealous for the traditions of my
fathers. But when it pleased God, who separated
me from my mother's womb and called me through
His grace, to reveal His Son in me, that I might
preach Him among the Gentiles, I did not
immediately confer with flesh and blood.
Galatians 111-16
6Dig Deeper Dont Go to God Only in Time of Need
- Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of
grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to
help in time of need. Hebrews 416 - I am the vine, you are the branches. He who
abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit for
without Me you can do nothing. John 155 - Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast,
immovable, always abounding in the work of the
Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in
the Lord. 1 Corinthians 1558
7Dig Deeper Dont Settle for an Acceptable
Social Life
- Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine.
Continue in them, for in doing this you will save
both yourself and those who hear you. 1 Timothy
416 - And the things that you have heard from me among
many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who
will be able to teach others also. 2 Timothy
22 - But you must continue in the things which you
have learned and been assured of, knowing from
whom you have learned them. 2 Timothy 314
8Dig Deeper Than Having a Mere Form of Godliness
- But know this, that in the last days perilous
times will come For men will be lovers of
themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud,
blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful,
unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers,
without self-control, brutal, despisers of good,
traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure
rather than lovers of God, having a form of
godliness but denying its power. And from such
people turn away! 2 Timothy 31-5
9Dig Deeper Than Having a Mere Form of Godliness
- Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God
for Israel is that they may be saved. For I bear
them witness that they have a zeal for God, but
not according to knowledge. For they being
ignorant of God's righteousness, and seeking to
establish their own righteousness, have not
submitted to the righteousness of God. For Christ
is the end of the law for righteousness to
everyone who believes. Romans 101-4
10Dig Deeper Than Living a Good Moral Life
- There was a certain man in Caesarea called
Cornelius, a centurion of what was called the
Italian Regiment, a devout man and one who feared
God with all his household, who gave alms
generously to the people, and prayed to God
always. Acts 101,2 - Who will tell you words by which you and all
your household will be saved. Acts 1114 - And he commanded them to be baptized in the name
of the Lord. Then they asked him to stay a few
days. Acts 1048
11Dig Deeper Than Living a Sincere Religious Life
- Indeed, I myself thought I must do many things
contrary to the name of Jesus of Nazareth. This I
also did in Jerusalem, and many of the saints I
shut up in prison, having received authority from
the chief priests and when they were put to
death, I cast my vote against them. And I
punished them often in every synagogue and
compelled them to blaspheme and being
exceedingly enraged against them, I persecuted
them even to foreign cities. Acts 269-11 - Then Paul, looking earnestly at the council,
said, men and brethren, I have lived in all good
conscience before God until this day. Acts 231
12Dig Deeper Than Living a Sincere Religious Life
HEAR - So he, trembling and astonished, said,
Lord, what do You want me to do? Then the Lord
said to him, Arise and go into the city, and you
will be told what you must do. Acts 96 OBEY
And now why are you waiting? Arise and be
baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the
name of the Lord. Acts 2216 BE FAITHFUL
But I discipline my body and bring it into
subjection, lest, when I have preached to others,
I myself should become disqualified. 1
Corinthians 927
13Dig Deeper Than Having a Superficial Knowledge
of the Word
- But we have renounced the hidden things of
shame, not walking in craftiness nor handling the
word of God deceitfully, but by manifestation of
the truth commending ourselves to every man's
conscience in the sight of God. 2 Corinthians
42 - For we are not, as so many, peddling the word of
God but as of sincerity, but as from God, we
speak in the sight of God in Christ. 2
Corinthians 217
14Dig Deeper Than Having a Superficial Knowledge
of the Word
- For such are false apostles, deceitful workers,
transforming themselves into apostles of Christ.
And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms
himself into an angel of light. 2 Corinthians
1113,14 - Be diligent to present yourself approved to God,
a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly
dividing the word of truth. 2 Timothy 215
15Dig Deeper Than Having a Superficial Knowledge
of the Word
- Beloved, I now write to you this second epistle
(in both of which I stir up your pure minds by
way of reminder), that you may be mindful of the
words which were spoken before by the holy
prophets, and of the commandment of us, the
apostles of the Lord and Savior. 2 Peter 31,2 - You therefore, beloved, since you know this
beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your
own steadfastness, being led away with the error
of the wicked but grow in the grace and
knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ...
2 Peter 317,18
16Dig Deeper Than Group Religion
Pure and undefiled religion before God and the
Father is this to visit orphans and widows in
their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from
the world. James 127 Therefore, to him who
knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is
sin. James 417 Therefore, as we have
opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to
those who are of the household of faith.
Galatians 610 Let your light so shine before
men, that they may see your good works and
glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 516
