Overview

• Concentration camps are used in genocides as a
  place to keep the unwanted.
• By the early 1940s there were thousands of these
  camps established throughout Europe.

Auschwitz-Birkenau

• This major component in Hitlers Final Solution
  included three concentration camps and was held
  responsible for about two and a half million
  deaths.
• Heinrich Himmler gave the orders to build the
  first camp at Auschwitz (Birkenau).

Daily Life in Concentration Camps

• Wake up unreasonable hours
• Unsanitary living conditions
• Major meals consisted of coffee and soup which
  they had to wait in long lines to receive.

• Tedious work
• Depressing atmosphere
• Constant threats
• Lost Identity Forced to wear special uniforms,
  get a hair cut, and have numbers tattooed on
  their arms.
