4...a new Evangelization that would unfurl with
greater vigour just like the original
evangelization a potential for sanctity, a
great missionary boom, a vast catechistic
creativity, a bountiful manifestation of
collegiality and communion, an evangelical
commitment to give dignity to man, to generate
...a great future of hope in order to propose
the civilization of love and, as a mean, a new
Christian culture. Pope John Paul II
(1984)

7Evangelization and Martyrdom
8There can be no effective proclamation if there
is no desire to lay down life.
Pope Benedict XVI God is Love (25)
9...we are daily faced, under the most diverse
forms, with a consumer society, the pursuit of
pleasure set up as the supreme value, a desire
for power and domination, and discrimination of
every kind. Pope Paul VI
Evangelization in the Modern
World
10The Collision of our Value System and the Call
of the Gospel
11OUR WORLD VIEW
- Driven by pragmatic
- efficiency.
- No heaven or hell or
- ultimate consequences.
- Focus is on
- pleasure, power,
- prestige and wealth.
12OUR VIEW OF THE HUMAN BEING
- Seen as mechanistic or utilitarian
- Not seen as created in Gods image with innate
dignity, but - rather as a mechanism to be used for personal
gain or the - perceived good of the society.
13This two-fold view forges a way of being in the
world that challenges Christianity at its
foundation.

16...the boundaries around the three are not
clearly definable and it is unthinkable to create
barriers between them or to put them into
watertight compartments. Pope
John Paul II Redemptoris mission
(34)
17For the Church, evangelizing means bringing the
Good News into all the strata of humanity, and
through its influence transforming humanity from
within and making it new. EN 18
18The New Evangelization is...
191. CHRIST CENTERED
202. THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE
ENTIRE PEOPLE OF GOD
213. BEGINS AT HOME IN THE FAMILY AND THE PARISH
AND IS NOT JUST FOR FOREIGN MISSIONS
22- DIRECTED TO INDIVIDUALS
- AND WHOLE CULTURES
23- NOT LIMITED TO THE PRESENTATION OF
- THE BASIC GOSPEL MESSAGE (KERYGMA)
- BUT IS A COMPREHENSIVE PROCESS OF
- CHRISTIANIZATION
246. CALLS FOR A MISSIONARY SPIRITUALITY
25The New Evangelization begins...
26by inviting those in the church to deepen their
encounter with Christ.
27From this
28it spreads to Catholics who no longer go to
church and to all people.
29Without forming practicing Catholics into
missionary disciples, there will be no one to
invite the 83 who are not part of our communal
life and worship.
Nor will there be a renewed community that will
nurture them with generous hospitality and
invite them to a Life in Christ.
30The challenge is two-fold
31- Reaching out to the 83 who no longer worship
every Sunday.
- The renewal of the 17 who are a vital part of
the worship of the Church.
32THE NEW EVANGELIZATION IN THE ARCHDIOCESE OF
PORT OF SPAIN
33THE CARIBBEAN FAMILY
34Households - mainly headed by single mothers
over the last 350 years.
35Marriage is not considered an attainable,
life-giving or desirable norm for many of our
people.
36- Traditional Caribbean Family Structure-
reinforced by modern trends in the Western world
of nuclear and single parent families, high
divorce rates, life choices and child-rearing
practices that are at variance with the
traditional Christian understanding.
37Ask Yourself
38- What is the one thing if done really well, it
would change everything???
39THE ANSWER
40If the family becomes the domestic church then it
becomes a structure of grace that feeds the
Catholic School and Parish, married
life vocations and a renewed Trinidad and Tobago.
41Evangelization of the family is about a process
that begins with the announcement of Gods
purpose for man and woman, married life,
sexuality and parenting. This is rooted in the
new catechesis of John Paul IIs Theology of the
Body.
42THE CATHOLIC SCHOOL
43The purpose of the Catholic education is the
formation of good Catholics and good
citizens through integral human development.
44RC SCHOOLS
NATIONAL
45- R.C. schools still below the National average.
- Muslim schools best after private but dropping.
- Trend has been to drop but most picking up
again with the exception of - Private, Muslim and A.C.
- Good first target would be to get R.C. average
above 45. -
46To achieve success we must
47Set a new paradigm in education and a new
formation process for our teachers and
principals.
48THE CATHOLIC PARISH
49Our pastoral priority is to renew individuals,
families and our parish life.
50We MUST commit to renewal in all areas
51Family Life
Faith Formation
Care for the Vulnerable
Worship
Social Justice
52The mission of Jesus requires
53- A descent from our comfortable positions
-
54 Radical honesty about the quality of our choices
and life-styles
55Solidarity the willingness to stand together as
church in the poverty of the human (moral and
spiritual) challenges that confront the nation
56An active waiting discerning Gods word in our
reality and expecting God to lead us to the next
stage.
57THE CALL TO CONVERSION
58PRAY
59For the grace to see the ways in which our lives
are not aligned with His Mission , His spirit
and His Kingdom.
60For the grace of turning to Gods direction
