SET GOALSObjectives met for this week

• We took this week to get ourselves for familiar
  with AFGPs chemical structure.
• Came up with more ideas as to how the AFGP can
  bond with Mica, HOPG, and Ice surfaces.
• Took Raman spectra measurements as references in
  future research of adsorption.
• Took strides in spectra interpretation.

GETTING STARTEDPreparing the sample

ANTIFREEZE GLYCOPROTEINAnd its conjunction with
Mica

• If you noticed, when the glycoprotein
  is in contact with the Mica, it spreads over a
  wider area on the sample due to Micas love for
  water.

AFGP

• Mica is a mineral crystal and adheres very
  well to water. Mica is widely used in this
  research because of the hydrophobic and
  hydrophilic properties AFGP possesses.

• Unlike the HOPG sample, the AFGP doesnt bead
  on the Mica surface.

  sample.

The is also a spectra of the AFGP in powder form.
We changed the location to get a better spectra
reading.

AFGP found in Mica.
Due to the vibration found through the AFGP
spectra, this spectra of Mica shows the same peak
as the previous one signifying that AFGP is
present on its surface.

ROAD BLOCKSProblems that will be conquered next
week

• We have not successfully achieved a Raman spectra
  of ice as of yet.
• Weve encountered problems with the ice melting
  too fast.
• Once that is achieved, well be able to apply the
  AFGP solution and collect Raman data within
  incoming weeks.
