11ETIS Pillars of Activities
12- gtgt Background
- In recognition of the growing use of electronic
commerce, ETIS set up a working group to develop
and promote the use of a standard subset of the
UN EDIFACT INVOIC message. This subset has been
approved by the ITU and is now in everyday use
within several ETIS member companies and EU
bodies. - In 2003 the group finished an XML standard for
the telecom industry in addition to the existing
EDIFACT message. - Objectives of the Working Group gtgt
- To provide companies with one single format for
their telecom bills, - regardless of the country and operator.
- To work together to develop maintain standard
solutions which meet - business needs, thus reducing transaction time,
billing costs errors. - To develop common specifications of EDI standards
within the billing area, - to maintain this set of common codes and to help
simplify implementation. - To define, test and implement EDI links for
electronic billing and related areas, and to
promote the EBG standards worldwide.
13Traditional Billing
- Paper bills cause lots of problems!
14Why use electronic billing?
15- gtgt The ISWG co-operates
- to implement EDI solutions for exchange of
statements of accounts wherever and whenever
feasible - to develop standard solutions in co-operation
with ITU-T (International Telecommunication
Union) which meet new business needs - to maintain the User Guide and the Common Code
Tables
16- gtgt Objectives of the working group
- to define, test and implement EDI links for
inter-operator exchange of statements of accounts
- to reduce transaction time and costs of the
information exchange - to simplify EDI implementation
- to promote these standards world-wide
- to further develop the ETIS standards to meet new
business needs - to continue to maintain both the ETIS flat file
and the EDIFACT formats - to develop and maintain generic support software
for access to the group's information and
deliverables
17- gtgt Business Benefits
- The benefits of EDI grow with the number of
partners and the transaction volumes - Cost savings based on quicker, safer and
paperless information interchange - Better decision making because of timely
information - Better data quality and fewer errors, less error
handling time. - Access to code tables, all group deliverables and
member-only information. They influence the EDI
development and vote on associated issues. - Support for the implementation of the standards
by the experts from the group. - Members or licensees implement an ITU-T approved
and supported standard for EDI related to
International Settlements.
18- gtgt Deliverables
- ETIS-EDI International Settlements User Guide
(standard content and format for all accounting
files exchanged between telecom operators to
support international settlements) - Code Tables. All files exchanged ideally use the
latest code tables as reference data so that
proper conversion can take place. - ETIS-IS Code Table Website. This provides fully
functioning and regularly maintained access to
code tables and group deliverables. - XML format solution
- Licence on Code Tables will be granted to
non-Members in order to speed-up implementation
worldwide - Through Agreement with ITU, ETIS became a
recognised agency by the ITU for the support of
ITU-T D.190 implementation

24- Background
- The EAWG was formerly called the IT Architecture
working group, but has changed its name in order
to emphasise its commitment to supporting the
business as whole, and not just the narrow
application of technology. - The effective management and exploitation of
Information Technology is the key to business
success. An Enterprise Architecture provides the
strategiccontext for the evolution
ofInformation Technology within the enterprise,
in response to the constantly changing needs of
the business environment. (TOG)
25- The group is dedicated to providing a forum for
the exchange of information and experience, the
identification of best practice in Enterprise
Architecture, and in working on joint initiatives
of mutual benefit. - Work topics deliverables
- IT Architecture Governance
- IT Governance
- Measuring Maturity
- Managing the IT/Business Interface
- Architecture Tools and Assessment
- Applications Usage Study
- Outsourcing
- Data Exchange Models
- The Applications Usage Study has opened up a new
topic for the group of wide interest.
26- Finally, it is worth noting that there is much
new legislation such as Sarbanes-Oxley, which
requires organisations to demonstrate that they
have sound Governance of the whole Enterprise in
place, including IT, and makes managers
personally responsible for its application. The
use of Enterprise Architecture provides an
effective way of achieving this.
