2
INTRODUCTION
3
Killer twins on the rampage
  • Teeana Beast, known as TEEBS

Hedonistic Ivy known as HIVY
4
The defence force is weakend by
  • Malnutrition
  • Cancer
  • Stress
  • HIV
  • Diabetes
  • or any other process which compromises the immune
    system

5
Signs symptoms
  • Persistent coughing for 3 weeks or more
  • Blood in the sputum
  • Shortness of breath, chest pains
  • Loss of appetite, loss of weight
  • General feeling of illness
  • Tiredness, loss of motivation
  • Night sweats and fever

6
The Saviour
  • Left to her own devices, TEEBS will destroy the
planet in a course of months
  • TEEBS can be totally destroyed
  • A 6 month bombardment of high potency missiles,
launched once per day, 5 days per week for 6
    months

7
The Saviour
  • If the bombardment is adhered to, all remnants of
TEEBS will be killed and the planet will be TEEBS
    free
  • Failure to bombard 5 days per week for 6 months
can lead to the development of MDR TB - a mutant
TEEBS, resistant to the normal cavalry
bombardment which will only respond to very
    expensive missiles

8
Part 2 of the game
  • TEEBS and HIVY launch a dual attack to speed up
    the destruction of the planet

9
TB IN THE WORKPLACE
10
TB in the workplace
  • Who can suggest some reasons why an employee with
the symptoms mentioned may fear going to a doctor?
  • Private practitioners in middle class areas often
    do not suspect TB

11
TB in the workplace
  • When people at work hear that Melanie has TB,
  • what is the first assumption they will jump to?
  • how are they going to feel sitting next to her
    and sharing facilities with her?
  • who is most likely to be blamed for bringing TB
into the office? Surely Melanie, from a
previously advantaged background and living in
    Norwood, cant be blamed

12
Some facts about TB
  • We can expect an increase in the number of TB
cases our workplace will have to deal with
  • We can expect an increase in TB in
non-traditional populations - we tend to
associate TB with the poor and poor living
    conditions
  • A person with TB is only infectious for the first
    2 weeks of (correct) treatment
  • People diagnosed with TB should be given 2 weeks
    sick leave
  • After 2 weeks they should be reassessed

13
Some facts about TB
  • After 2 weeks they can return to work without
putting co-workers at risk. They are no longer
infectious and pose no threat, even to HIV
    positive persons.
  • TB patients on correct treatment will not infect
    other people

14
ISSUES TO BE DEALT WITH IN THE WORKPLACE
15
Stigma
  • The person with TB
  • Fears death
  • Feels shame
  • Fears having HIV

16
Colleagues
  • Fear being infected
  • Feel anger at being at risk
  • Feel guilty about their attitude

17
Employers
  • Fear loss of production
  • Fear possible industrial action
  • Are generally ignorant about TB
  • Are open to persons who abuse their ignorance

18
Issues to be dealt with in the workplace
  • Not everyone with TB has HIV
  • Not everyone with HIV has TB

Management needs to be informed
All employees need to be informed
Correct information is the weapon to slay the
deadly twins
