Title: Solar thermal applications in Eastern Europe

1
Solar thermal applications in Eastern Europe with
Guaranteed Solar Results EAST-GSR Grant
Agreement EIE/05/208/SI2.420214 Project duration
from January 1st, 2006 to December 31st, 2008

A 10 partners consortium
  • ADEME France (Leader)
  • Arsenal Research Austria
  • SEC (Sofia Energy Centre) Bulgaria
  • TECSOL France
  • DENA (Deutsche Energie Agentur) Germany
  • CRES (Centre for Renewable Energy Sources)
    Greece
  • KAPE (Polish national energy conservation agency)
    Poland
  • OVM-ICCPET - Romania
  • SEA (Slovak Energy Agency) Slovakia
  • University of Ljubljana - Slovenia

3
Projects main objectives
  • Adaptation of the GSR quality approach to Eastern
European Member States and Candidate countries
Bulgaria, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia
  • Pro-active promotion and networking between solar
    energy professionals and public/private
decision-makers to increase confidence and remove
the remaining barriers to massive use of solar
    thermal energy systems
  • To support the process implementation of pilot
project and feasibility studies to show
    reliability for collective applications

4
Expected results
  • Transfer the GSR experience to Eastern European
countries and adapt the GSR chart
  • Train professionals to increase professional
know-how regarding design and operation of
    collective thermal solar systems
  • Implement one complete telemonitoring system per
country on an existing collective solar thermal
    installation and asses performances to
    demonstrate reliability
  • Realise feasibility studies and present results
    to investors
  • Ensure a widest promotion and dissemination of
the GSR quality approach concept through
    publications, participation in European/world
dedicated conferences in order to demonstrate
solar thermal as a mature and trustworthy
    technology

5
Background outputs
This project is dedicated to Eastern European
countries with an emerging thermal solar
market. Thanks to the GSR concept transfer,
EAST-GSR is aiming at allowing the development of
a mature and sustainable solar thermal market in
the concerned countries. These markets should
also contribute to the development of local
industries and distribution networks following a
process already experienced in Europe.
6
Target groups and key actors
  • This project concerns the entire solar thermal
    profession
  • Solar hardware suppliers, manufacturers or
    distributors of imported equipment
  • Engineers responsible for thermal solar system
    design
  • Contractors responsible for installing solar
equipment with reference to precise quality
    standards
  • Operation and maintenance responsible
  • Financing institutions (public or private)
  • End-users (hotel chains, social housing services,
    building sector)
  • Public or private bodies responsible of the solar
    thermal technology development

7
Structure of the action
.
8
First results
  • State of present solar hot water market and
future potential in the 5 Eastern European
    partner countries identification of economic
and financial requirements for a wide
dissemination of the GSR concept are almost
finalised in English and will be soon available
    in national languages
  • 10 existing collective solar installations per
Eastern countries have been selected. Among them,
4 installations per country have been visited.
The selection process of the pilot site for
    telemonitoring implementation is almost finalised
  • A first set of national and international
communication on EAST-GSR project issues has been
    realised

9
Main deliverables
  • 5 National market analyses and GSR development
    potential
  • GSR contracts for all Eastern European
    participating countries
  • Recommendation for the successful GSR Charter
    implementation
  • Dedicated pedagogic tools for training purpose
  • National training sessions with site visits
  • Implementation of telemonitoring systems on one
    existing installation in Eastern European
    participating countries
  • Pre-feasibility studies on new potential sites
  • Project dissemination activities (web-site,
    leaflet, publications)
  • Participation in European/World dedicated
    conferences
