4Overview Morupule Colliery Limited, incorporated
in 1970, is a wholly owned Debswana subsidiary
and commenced mining in 1973 in Palapye. Initial
production was 145 000 tons per annum which has
now grown to nearly one million tons of coal p.a.
5The mine currently has 261 employees.

15BPC Expansion project
- Southern/Central African region has a serious
energy/coal deficit. - 70 of Botswanas energy is imported ito a
contract that expires end 2007. - BPC intend to commission a 600MW station in 2010.
- Morupule Colliery expects to provide up to 2,6
million tons of coal per annum for this
expansion.
