  • The idea that what is right or wrong depends on
    and is determined by ones group or culture.

  • What is right and wrong is based on ones opinion.

  • If I feel pleasure or pain, then I deserve moral
    consideration.
  • Or
  • Maximize happiness and minimize unhappiness.
  • Based on consequences not principle.

Duty Theory/Deontologism
  • This focuses on intentions or motivations and not
    the consequences of an action.
  • Doing what is right because it is right not
    because it will result in reward or pleasure.

Divine Command Theory
  • Morality is set by a sacred authority.

Virtue Ethics
  • Focuses not on actions of moral principles but
    how to be moral.
  • Emphasizes the character of a person as the
    motivating factor to moral actions.
