  • All people are made in the image of God
  • All people regardless of race, age, nationality,
    religion, or economic status deserve respect
  • People are invaluable, loved by God, and worthy
    of respect human life is sacred
  • Respect for life from womb to tomb

Family and Community Participation
  • Human beings are social by nature
  • Family is the central social institution in
    society
  • People have a right to participate in society and
    seek the common good
  • Principle of subsidiarity a higher unit of
    society should not do what a lower unit can do as
    well or better counters the state controlling
    persons and destroying individual liberty

Rights and Responsibilities
  • Right a claim we can make on other people and
    on society so we can live a full human life
  • People have a fundamental right to life, food,
    shelter, health care, employment, and education
  • From Peace on Earth right to life, moral and
    cultural rights, right to worship God, right to
    choose ones state of life, economic rights,
    meeting and association, right to emigrate and
    immigrate, political rights
  • Corresponding to each right is a responsibility
    to respect rights of others and work for common
    good (social nature)

Option for the poor and vulnerable
  • The moral test of a society is how it treats its
    most vulnerable members
  • The poor and powerless must be protected
    otherwise society will fragment and all will
    suffer
  • Jesus takes the side of those in need demands a
    conversion from selfishness
  • Requires involvement in changing political and
    economic structures, living more simply so others
    can have a chance to live

Dignity of Work and rights of workers
  • Economy should serve the people
  • Work helps us participate in Gods creation
  • Right to productive work, decent and fair wages,
    union participation, private property and
    economic initiative

Solidarity
  • We are our brothers and sisters keeper wherever
    they live
  • Members of one human family share equal human
    dignity, certain values, goals, standards and
    interests
  • We are all interdependent looking out for
    number one as our only concern is opposite to
    solidarity

Care for Gods creation
  • Called to protect the planet we must live in
    relationship with all Gods creation
  • Correct the anthropocentric nature of Christianity
