10Is this the right way for Sweden and Europe?
- First generation biofuels (agricultural products
from food industry) - Energy efficient enough?
- CO2 reduction?
- Enough raw material?
- Second generation (gasification or hydrolysation,
fermentation of cellulosic biomass) - Better energy efficiency?
- Better CO2 reduction?
- Raw material?
- Technology development
11Sweden focus RD investments on
- Second generation biofuels (pilot plants)
- Gasification of biomass
- Gasification of black liquor
- Ethanol from cellulose
- Vehicle development
- Biomass potential development
- The cost 150 Mkr/year
- GOAL To create new business and security of
supply in Sweden

25The vision
- 2030, the European Union has 25 of its road
transport fuel by clean and CO2- efficient
biofuels - The biofuel is mainly from a competitive European
industry and will decreases EU fossil fuel import
dependence - Biofuels are produced using sustainable and
innovative technologies

32Conclusions
- Sweden has a leading role in Europe for
introduction of biofuels (ethanol) on the market
(incentives) - EU-kommission focus on the area, especially in
FP7 - Germany has a big part biodiesel, going towards
low blends - Interesting switch for the tax exemption in
Germany - Biofuel directive has been efficient for the
introduction - The Technology Platform for biofuels could have
major impact on investments in RTD for second
generation biofuels - More resources for research and development is
necessary
