The Emission Theory
Bright objects send out beams, or particles, that
would ricochet off other objects and enter the eye

The Corpuscular Theory
Light is a system of particles emitted in all
directions from source in straight lines

The Wave Theory
Light is a wave that spreads out from source that
generates the light actions are based on wave
theory each color has different wavelength

The Electromagnetic Theory
Light has electric and magnetic properties speed
of light predicted by electrical and magnetic
constants explained how light is generated

The Quantum Theory
Light is a form of energy, composed of photons
energy in photon proportional to frequency of
light combines both corpuscular and wave theories

Emission
Light does ricochet off objects and goes into
the eye
Corpuscular
This theory describes reflection and explains
primary and secondary rainbows. Also demonstrates
the photoelectric effect.
Wave
Every color does have a different wavelength,
and supernumerary bows (extra bands of color
inside of primary bow) are explained by this
theory

The Good Continues
Electromagnetic
Explains how light is generated and is based
heavily on mathematics. Also closely predicted
the speed of light.
Quantum
The energy of the photon does determine color.
Explains the unique behavior of light by
combining the two most accurate theories.

The Bad
Emission
Theory does not make complete sense, and does
not explain different phenomena of light.
Corpuscular
Theory cannot explain supernumerary bow, corona,
or an iridescent cloud. Light does not travel in
straight lines.
Wave
Theory cannot explain rectilinear propagation,
or demonstrate how light is generated.

The Bad Continues
Electromagnetic
Visible light is only one type of
electromagnetic wave.
Quantum
Theory contains more math than the
electromagnetic theory.

The Final Decision
And The Winner is...
THE QUANTUM THEORY

But Why?
The Quantum Theory has yet to be proven wrong.
Combining both the corpuscular and wave theories,
it will be difficult to disprove. To accurately
describe the extreme properties of light, both of
these theories had to be merged. This theory is
able to explain and support the many
characteristics involving light, such as
reflection, refraction, rectilinear propagation,
interference, diffraction, and the photoelectric
effect.
