• Sprint/Nextel extended Netbeans Platform for
  Mobile IDE Tool (very impressive lots of oohs
  and awws)
• More cell phone models supporting Java and
  Java/Linux distros.
• Sun, Nokia, Sprint, Motorola all placing a lot of
  bets on mobile applications based on expanded
  availability of broadband cell service.

• Java 5 well established.
• Many sessions focused on benefits of using new
  Java 5 language features
• Many new tools and deploying versions that
  support Java 5 (1.5) and above. If youre on JDK
  1.4 it is time to upgrade.
• Java 6 released by end of year (Java 7 next year
  or early following)
