Strategic Objective - Transitions To enable
individuals to progress from one part of the
education system (or the community or work) into
more advanced study or employment.

  • Working with institutions to ensure that
    progression routes exist
  • Working with all involved in student support and
    guidance to ensure that relevant and appropriate
    support is available to learners at all
    transition points

  • To work alongside existing initiatives and
    developments, enhance existing programmes and
    projects
  • To support community learning and development
    plans
  • To contribute to local economic development
    agendas
  • To identify gaps and avoid duplication of
    activities across the region

Concept of Pre-access Project
Developed through early consultation
Partners identified a gap in pre-access provision
It was agreed that a partnership approach would
be the most valuable method of delivery

Defining Pre-access
Any type of educational provision that -
Raises aspirations and builds confidence
Prepares learners for more advanced formal
learning
But there are differences of emphasis among
practitioners regarding the level, type of
activity and formality of provision

  • 11 courses running between July 05 and July 06
  • Provision in all four local authority areas
  • 71 learners have participated in 5 courses
  • Energised local networks
