What is an odometer used for?

• An odometer is used to record the distance that a
  vehicle travels.

Why was it made?

• As postmaster, Ben had to figure out routes for
  delivering the mail. He went out riding in his
  carriage to measure the routes and needed a way
  to keep track of the distance. He invented a
  simple odometer and attached it to his carriage.

How much is it worth?

• Ben Franklins odometer would be worth over
  thousands of dollars today. Back then, they were
  worth 15 to 20 dollars.
• Today odometers are included in the price of the
  car you want.

What is it made of?

• The old one was made of clay, rocks, paint and
  some unknown material.
• The new one is made of metal, glass and paint.
• They were both painted.

How they are used today!

• Odometers today measure the amount of miles you
  drive in a car. They are found behind the
  steering wheel. Speedometer and tachometer are
  found there too.

Was this a useful invention?

• Yes, the odometer was very useful. If we didnt
  have them today, we wouldn't know the distance of
  a trip.
