4 Key points The children will develop
knowledge and understanding -and therefore-
informed attitudes towards racism, disability and
refugees. Learning Outcomes The children can
demonstrate greater empathy and understanding
toward people in the above groups. Assessment Th
e children will be able to identify different
forms of racism, disability, and reasons for this
occurring. The children will understand why
people become refugees.

5 Racism The children can understand and
express their feelings on this subject. The
children develop some understanding of different
cultures and traditions, and embrace them in
their own community. The children will have some
knowledge of people from the past who have
campaigned against racism. Refugees- The
children can discuss the migration of people. The
children can improve their map skills. The
children understand why people become refugees,
and put themselves in that situation. The
children become familiar with the stories of well
known refugees. The children can improve their
knowledge of some worldwide refugee
situations. Disability- The children can
discuss, and empathise with people with
disability. The children have gained some
knowledge from meeting people with disability and
challenge themselves to undertake activities with
some impairment to senses.

others (from gaining knowledge develop empathy
and respect). Commitment to participate
responsibly in political, economic, social and
cultural life. ( Use knowledge gained to act more

of the world and Scotlands place in
it. Understand different beliefs and
cultures. Make informed choices and decisions.
