4- The role of
- Created in 1986, when Portugal joined CERN, with
the goal of supporting the participation of the
Portuguese experimental physicists in the CERN
activities. - At present, most of the experimental commitments
of Portuguese teams at CERN are LIP
responsibility (100 HEP and Heavy Ions, etc.)
Important recommendation in the minutes of ECFAs
last visit to Portugal (in spring 2001) about the
need for solutions that allow an effective
integration of experienced PhDs and senior
physicist in stable (track tenure) positions,
triggered an important process and LIP is an
ASSOCIATE LABORATORY since November 2001
