II. Country background
- Area of Vietnam 331 square kilometres
- Borders China, Laos, Cambodia and Pacific
Ocean - Population 82 million people with 70 of the
population resides in rural areas - Capital Hanoi, 5 million people
- Gross Domestic Product (GDP)-around 7,5 per year
- Vietnam is committed to regional global economic
integration through its participation in ASEAN
and APEC, its WTO accession negotiations and its
signing in July 2000 of the US-Vietnam Bilateral
Trade Agreement.

administration in charge of policy-making and
regulatory matters in posts, telecommunications,
information technology, electronics, internet,
radio transmission and emission techniques,

information infrastructure, management of public
services as well as of control over, on behalf of
Government and as stipulated by laws and
regulations, the state capital in posts,
telecommunications and information technology
enterprises.

- Some Technical Standards (mainly, before 1996)
not catch the development of Telecom Technologies
nowadays. The need for upgrading and changing - Technical Standards not cover all fields of
Telecom and being constructed. For example
standards for radio equipments, quality of
services,

VI. Conclusion
- Standardization is a key role that promote the
development of economic intergation and
co-operation. - The country has made significant strides towards
catching up with regional and international
standards. - The need for agreement in the national, regional
and international telecommunications standards.
The goal is "One Standard, One Test and Agreed
anywhere" - Benefits from Workshop Knowledge and experience
on Standardization in Japan and other countries
