Agenda
  • Project Goals
  • Introduction to Project
  • Project Details
  • Problems Faced
  • Results
  • Goals Not Achieved

3
Project Goals
  • Providing a facing direction measurement system
    of a sensor with another
  • Use metrics such as Signal Strength, Packet error
    rate to estimate orientation
  • Generate MATLAB model to estimate orientation

4
Project Details and Assumptions
  • Assumptions
  • Kids are in close proximity with in 1.5 ft
  • Antenna of the motes are not covered
  • Project Details
  • Readings were taken at multiples of 90º angles
  • Telos B mote is mounted vertically

5
Project Details
  • We have used Telos B motes in our experiments
  • We have used the internal antenna (F-inverted)
    present on the PCB
  • Radiation pattern of the F-inverted (vertical
    mounting) is not perfectly Omnidirectional

Problems faced
  • Omni-directional antenna of telos B needs
    analysis of radiation pattern
  • Multipath problems resulted in erroneous results
  • Packet error rate is very high even at shorter
    range like 1feet

11
Results
  • Matlab model takes the radiation pattern and
RSSI values to calculate angle of orientation
    which agrees with experimental setup

12
Goals not achieved
  • Unable to include packet error rate metric
  • Experiment was not conducted by varying the
    height
  • Experiment was conducted only indoors
