Title: Take a ChanceAct

1
Take a Chance--Act
  • A Titanic Web Quest
  • By Lindsay Wolfe

2
Introduction
  • Did you ever think you could be a movie star?
Yes, I am talking to you! How about it? Are you
    up for a challenge?

3
  • Universal Studios has just called and said they
are planning on re-releasing the movie Titanic.
The problem is, they are unable to reach any of
the actors and actresses from the first release

4
The Task
  • The producers have requested that our class
audition to fill in for those actors and
actresses who are nowhere to be found. I said
Great, you will not be disappointed! I have
confidence in each and every one of my students.

5
  • The studios one request was that the class be
familiar with the Titanic before beginning to
learn the script lines. I accepted the offer on
behalf of the class and said that would be no
    problem.
  • Here is the plan

6
  • You will work in a group with three other
students. Each person will have a task to
complete. After you have completed your mission,
write some sentences about your findings in your
writing journal. You will read these notes
during your videotaped voice audition for the
    producers.

7
  • Next, share the findings with your partners.
The four of you will then decide on a part of the
Titanic story to write a script for so that you
can create a short play for the audition. You
may use puppets as characters or yourselves. Be
    creative!

8
Process
  • The individual tasks are as follows
  • Climatologist
  • Drama Expert
  • History Buff
  • Executive
  • The duties of each person are described in the
    next few slides.

9
Climatologist
  • This person is responsible for checking ahead
and reporting the weather at Southhampton,
Cherbourg, Queenstown, New York, and the North
Atlantic Ocean. You are also responsible for
sharing with your teammates what an iceberg is
and how it is formed, plus any other relevant
information about it you wish to include.

10
Drama Coach
  • The duty of the drama coach is to find out
about the differences among the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd
class passengers of the Titanic. Tell your
partners about the different accommodations that
each class received on the Titanic. How do you
act when the ship is sinking? This information
is so you are able to coach your teammates and
give them acting tips on how to behave like
Titanic passengers. You also should let them know
what props to bring for the audition.

11
History Buff
  • The responsibility of the history buff is to be
knowledgeable of the 1912 time period when the
Titanic began its maiden voyage. What kind of
clothes and dresses were worn and how much did
groceries cost? You are also advised to brush up
on your Titanic facts especially on construction
    and characteristics of the ship.

12
Executive
  • The executives job is to see that all the
information needed for the play is accurate. You
will start and end all audition rehearsals. You
need to know as much as possible about frigid
water survival. As an addition to your play, you
may want to find out the type of music that
passengers on the Titanic may have listened to.
Was there more than one type?

  • You will be evaluated both individually and as
a whole group. Do your Personal Best! The

Conclusion
  • Congratulations! The producers from Universal
Studios have just told me that they were so
impressed with your acting skills and creativity!
There definitely will be some cast members for
the re-releasing of Titanic from our class. They
will announce the cast in one week. Meanwhile,
be proud of yourself and if you find out you did
not make cast, just think of all the experience
you have gained for the next time.
