About George Washington Carver
  • George was born about 1864 on the Moses Carver
    Plantation in Diamond Grove, Missouri.
  • His father died in an accident before his birth.
  • Later on, George Washington Carver only at 6
    weeks old and his mother was kidnapped by slave
    raiders.
  • He was eventually ransomed for a horse valued at
    300
  • He was returned but his mother was never heard
    from again.
  • When he grew up where he had an illness from when
    he was a baby he was not able to work in the
    fields, so he had to do chores around the house.

  • He had a lot of time to search threw the woods
    and play. At an early age he became interested in
    plants, and soon became known as the Plant
    Doctor.
  • From age 10,his thirst for knowledge and desire
    for formal education lead him to several
    communities in Missouri and Kansas and finally,
    in 1890, to Indianola, Iowa where he enrolled in
    Simpson college to study piano and paintings.

Achievements
  • What carver knew came from 25 years of hard work
    at the Tuskegee Institute, one of the nations
    leading schools for the blacks.
  • By early 1918, when world war one was well under
    way, carver had became such a well known
    agriculturalist that the united states department
    of agricultural had began consulting him for ways
    to over come the food shortage

Continued Agriculture
  • Shortly after the war ended his experiments with
    peanuts drew the attention of southern peanut
    growers and processors, who saw him as a good
    spokesman for this industry.

  • He was called the Wizard of Tuskegee.
  • He was called the Peanut Man.
  • The black De Vinci.
  • Carvers date of birth is unknown how ever most
    people think it is around 1864.

Death
  • Returning from home one day, Carver took a bad
    fall down a flight of stairs he was found
    unconscious by a maid who took him to a hospital.
    Carver died January 5, 1943 at the age of 79 from
    complications resulting from this fall.
