Tidewater Scholarship
  • An experience of a Life time by
  • Tara I. Arthur

2
Endless opportunities
  • It has always been an intricate part of my life
to pass on the knowledge that I obtain to others
who can benefit. My experience here at Tidewater
Scholarship has taken me to a new level with new
options on ways to continue my quest.

3
The first thoughts
  • I admit that before I learned all that I had
about Tidewater Scholarship and Access I was very
optimistic as well as curious about where the
    experience might take me

4
My Passport into an new experience
  • My first time going to the main office I knew
that I was in an enjoyable environment. I loved
    everything about it!
  • Except perhaps Norfolk Parking)

5
Time to explore!
  • I was impressed immensely with the staff members.
  • The support they provide to one another was very
apparent in all that they did.
  • Everyone in the office was very aware of the main
    goal of the organization.

6
Stop one on the Road...
  • The first few days of my time I was in the main
    office in Norfolk Virginia.
  • Attending the team meeting that they have was
where I had the chance to meet many of the people
that make this organization so wonderful.

Team meeting Jan. 2004
7
First contact
  • My first day out in the field I spent with Ellen
Burlingame and Kathy Shea-Sword. Visiting The
Access program at Norcom High School in Norfolk.
  • Although their after school program was canceled
for the day, I still learned a lot in talking
with both Ms. Burlingame and Ms. Shea-Sword.

8
Crossing the Great Bridge
  • I spent the morning with Ms. Candice Bagner and
had watched the Access program at work.
  • I noticed how different each access advisor
    accomplished their task.
  • I really enjoyed that aspect of their
individuality and the use of their talent.

9
Love and Wilson
  • Spending a Lovely afternoon at Wilson High School
was a fabulous time with Ms. Katrina Love.
  • I had a great time working directly with her
mentoring program. I really loved the kids and
enjoyed hearing about their great ambitions.

10
Training with Toran
  • Observing Mr. Toran at Booker T. Washington was a
    whole new experience.
  • Mr. Toran is the only male access advisor and had
a different angel and approach then is fellow
    co-workers.
  • I really had a good time here. I also
partcipated in his mentoring program and had the
chance to learn a great deal about his students.
One of the funniest things was hearing about
their ideal college. For example one was named
    Cold Stone University.

11
Braven it at Indian River
  • Once again I got to spend a super day with Ms.
    Bagner!
  • She is such a outstanding person, she also
carries a lot of responsibility with being in
    charge of 3 schools!

12
Final pit stop at Churchland
  • Church Land High School was my last stop on my
    vacation of experience.
  • I took a truck stop with the Churchland Truckers
and spent my time with Ms. Kathy Wilmont.

13
Trucking it!
  • I enjoyed my time with Ms. Wilmot and seeing her
    great interaction with her students.
  • One memorable part of Churchland was that I had
the chance to speak to a wonderful girl that
received an acceptance letter to VWC! I am
looking forward to her arrival here ?

Look at those two smile!
14
Scrap Book
  • I want to express my heart felt thanks to
Tidewater Scholarship and all of its employees
for their time and effort in allowing me to take
a little peak into all the exciting and rewarding
    things they do.
