Title: Who do you think Jesus is
1Who do you think Jesus is?
- A good moral person
- A person from God perhaps a Prophet
- The Son of God
- A crazy person that thought he was God
- A person that lied that he was the Son of God
2Yes, a Jesus certainly lived and was a good man,
but he was more than just a good man.
3Lets Review Who Jesus is
- Born in an obscure village
- Grew up as a carpenter
- Was an itinerant preacher
- His life history of record was only 3 years (ages
30 to 33) - Did many miracles
4Jesus Never
- Wrote a book
- Held an office
- Had a family
- Owned a home
- Went to college
- Traveled more than 200 miles
5Questions to consider
- So what did Jesus believe about himself?
- How did others perceive Him?
- Who is this solitary figure?
- Who is Jesus of Nazareth?
6Jesus Claims
- Son of God
- Divine, equal to God
- Only way to get to Heaven
- Able to save men of their sins
- Accepted worship
- Claimed to be sinless
- The Fulfillment of Gods Law Promises
7The Son of God (John 316-18)
8Divine, equal to God Only way to get to Heaven
(John 145-14)
- 5Thomas said to him, "Lord, we don't know where
you are going, so how can we know the way?"
6Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and
the life. No one comes to the Father except
through me. 7If you really knew me, you would
know my Father as well. From now on, you do know
him and have seen him." - 8Philip said, "Lord, show us the Father and that
will be enough for us." - 9Jesus answered "Don't you know me, Philip, even
after I have been among you such a long time?
Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How
can you say, 'Show us the Father'? 10Don't you
believe that I am in the Father, and that the
Father is in me? The words I say to you are not
just my own. Rather, it is the Father, living in
me, who is doing his work. 11Believe me when I
say that I am in the Father and the Father is in
me or at least believe on the evidence of the
miracles themselves. 12I tell you the truth,
anyone who has faith in me will do what I have
been doing. He will do even greater things than
these, because I am going to the Father. 13And I
will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the
Son may bring glory to the Father. 14You may ask
me for anything in my name, and I will do it.
9Able to save men of their sins(Matthew 91-7)
- 1Jesus stepped into a boat, crossed over and came
to his own town. 2Some men brought to him a
paralytic, lying on a mat. When Jesus saw their
faith, he said to the paralytic, "Take heart,
son your sins are forgiven." 3At this, some of
the teachers of the law said to themselves, "This
fellow is blaspheming!" - 4Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said, "Why do you
entertain evil thoughts in your hearts? 5Which is
easier to say, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to
say, 'Get up and walk'? 6But so that you may know
that the Son of Man has authority on earth to
forgive sins...." Then he said to the paralytic,
"Get up, take your mat and go home." 7And the man
got up and went home.
10The Fulfillment of Gods Law Promises(Matthew
517-18)
11A quote from British Literary author of
Cambridge C. S. Lewis
- A man who was merely a man and said the sort of
things Jesus said wouldnt be a great moral
teacher. He would be either a lunatic on the
level of a man that says he is a poached egg, or
else he would be a devil of hell you must take
your choice. Either this was and is the Son of
God, or else a mad man or something worse. You
can shut Him up for a demon or you can fall at
His feet and call Him Lord and God. But dont
come up with any patronizing nonsense about his
being a great moral teacher. He has not left
that open to us. He did not intend to.
12Jesus Claims to be God
13The claims are either...
- 2) Knew He wasnt
- liar
- charlatan
- 1) Thought He really was!
- lunatic!
- god delusions
But -- his life death
But -- his Sermon on the Mount
From C.S.Lewis, God in the Dock
14Was he a Liar a con man?
- If Yes
- He was a hypocrite told others to be honest
- He was a demon he told others to trust in him
for eternal destiny. - He was a fool up to his crucifixion.
15Mark 1461-64
16John 197
17If he was a liar
- How do we explain his teachings about morality?
- How do we explain his answers at his death?
18The answer is he could not have been a liar!
- Jesus lived a moral life
- Taught about morality
- Died for a cause
19Was Jesus a Lunatic?
- Lets use slang to explain
- Was he coo coo
- Did he have a screw loose
- Was he nuts
20Jesus lacked qualities of most insane persons
- His practical wisdom in ability to read hearts of
persons - His deep and winning love, his passion and
ability to attract and forgive persons. - His miracles
- His creativity to astonish persons
21Is Jesus the Lord The Son of God?
- His followers declared their faith in him.
- God said his son would come in OT
- He backs up his statements with miracles
- He lives the moral life we fall short of
- He is influential yet not as the way we view
influential
22John 2030-31 has great conclusions!
23- Based on an evaluation of the historical evidence
it is not unreasonable to conclude - Jesus Claims Were True
24What do we need to do with Gods Son if he is
Lord? (John 316-18)
25Without Jesus, nothing else makes sense.
