1. What is an adverb?
Adverbs qualify the following parts of speech

• Verbs - She did her Spanish homework quickly

• Adjectives - She found her Spanish homework
  amazingly easy

• Other adverbs - She did her Spanish homework
  amazingly quickly

2. How are they formed?

• Most are formed by adding ly to the end of an
  adjective (with or without minor spelling
  adjustments)

• Some are words in their own rights eg very,
  quite, often

1. Most are formed by adding -mente to the
feminine form of the adjective.

2. When two adverbs follow each other
consecutively, the mente ending is only added
to the final adverb.
Eg. La estudiante hizo los deberes de español
lenta y cuidadosamente
Traduce al español

• He speaks clearly and logically

• Habla clara y lógicamente

2. The buses run efficiently and frequently

• Los autobuses funcionan eficaz y frecuentemente

3. They swim easily and quickly

In Spanish, an adverbial phrase is often used to
avoid a potentially long and clumsy sounding
adverb

• How could we avoid these?

• persuavivamente
• independientemente
