6How serious is the problem in Belgium?

A bright idea... a luminous golf ball!

12Solution proposed by Geert De Cock
a high quality photoluminescent
golfball and a highly focused compact
projector
13a high quality photoluminescent golfball
thanks to
LUMINOVA by NEMOTO
LumiNova was invented and developed by NEMOTO
CO. LTD. of Tokyo, Japan
14LumiNova is a class of newly developed
phosphorescent (glow-in-the-dark) pigments, based
onStrontium Oxide Aluminate chemistry They are
drastically DIFFERENT from conventional phosphore
scent pigments which are either based on Zinc
Sulfide or on radioisotopes for
their self-luminous properties
15Advantages... (source Nemoto)
Afterglow period of ten times current ZnS based
phosphorescent pigments. Activation by a wide
wavelength band (200-450 nm) but best results are
obtained with an activation energy under 350 nm
Initial afterglow brightness of up to ten
times that of conventional phosphorescent
pigments Increase in luminescence and afterglow
with longer activation time Excellent weather
and light fastness Free of hazardous and
radioactive substances
16some graphs... (source Nemoto)
17The LumiNova-based golfball
a normal golfball for driving practice - the
photoluminescent pigment is integrated in the
outer layer of the ball and does not alter its
behaviour or flight characteristics the ball has
been tested and approved by professional golf
trainers long lasting light, enhanced by higher
t, unlimited re-use
18A highly focused compact projector
First attempt
19A highly focused compact projector
20A highly focused compact projector
- projector activates the pigment
- - positioned opposite the player, distance of
0,5m - shielded, so no glare
- the player is not blinded by the light
- 70 or 150 W CDM-T source (close focus) mirror
- activation up to the moment of hitting the ball
- optimal luminance during flight traject
- - protection against occasional impact of ball on
- projector
21A highly focused compact projector
System in use
- switch on the projector, leave it on - place a
ball (pre-warmed optional) on tee in focus of
projector - pigment is activated in a few
seconds - hit the ball... and follow its
trajectory as easy as that...
22Adavantages of the ball/projector system
extremely good visibility in low-light or night
conditions visible over a 40 longer distance,
even compared with daylight! very good
visualization of trajectory, good teaching and
training aid! no additional expensive projectors
and/or light masts required
23Adavantages of the ball/projector system
STRONG REDUCTION OF LIGHT POLLUTION BECAUSE
ELSEWHERE ON THE COURSE ONLY DOWNWARD ORIENTED
LIGHT IS USED, PREFERABLY WITH ASYMMETRIC
AND SHIELDED PROJECTORS!!
