• A student/parent may request a paper FAFSA by

Application Processing Tips

• Gather necessary documents ahead of time.
• Complete a FAFSA on the Web Worksheet available
  at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
• Allow ample time to complete form for submission
  by deadline.
• Check the FAFSA for accuracy prior to submission.
• Save all work periodically.
• Sign the application using the students and at
  least one parents PIN.
• Print out a copy of the FAFSA before submitting
  data.
• Keep a copy of the Submission Confirmation Page.

• List your name and social security number exactly
  as they appear on your social security card.
• The online application will also ask for your
  first name and middle initial. Use your legal
  name not your nickname.
• The online application will also ask for your
  date of birth. Be certain to use your birth
  year, not the current year.
• All items will be compared through the Social
  Security Administrations database.

  Social Security match.
• If eligible non-citizen, status will be confirmed
  by Department of Homeland Security (DHS) match.
• If neither A nor B, you are ineligible for

• Parents Marital Status as of Today Parents

  day they are completing the FAFSA. Only a parent
  who was never married should use the Single
  response.
• Date of marriage, separation, divorce, or
  widowed Parents should indicate the date of
  their marital status. A parent who was never
  married should leave this question blank.

• List the Social Security numbers, last names,
  first initials, and dates of birth of the
  parent(s) required to report information on the
  FAFSA.
• It is important that the parents list their last
  names and first initials exactly as the
  information appears on their Social Security card
  so they will pass the Social Security

• If parents do not have Social Security numbers,
  they should enter all zeroes. Leaving this
  question blank may result in a delay in
  processing of the FAFSA.
