Sixth Form students can normally be a direct
entry Gold candidate
  • Gold involves
  • 12 months service
  • 12 months physical recreation
  • 12 months skill
  • One of these must be followed for a further 6
    months if a direct entry
  • An expedition of 4 days and 3 nights
  • A residential project of 5 days and
  • 4 nights

Service Section
  • This is where members of the community
  • benefit from the actions of those undertaking
    the service section
  • Students have
  • run a tuck shop
  • helped with the Oswestry in
  • Bloom preparations
  • undertaken prefecture and CCF

Physical Recreation
  • Examples of this are
  • membership of a sporting team
  • an individual pastime such as
  • cycling or walking
  • other activities such as archery
  • and sailing are also covered in
  • this section

Skills Section
  • A skill is an activity that necessitates
  • the participant assimilating knowledge
  • and practicality in order to take part
  • The list of skills ranges from
  • agriculture to zoology with over 50
  • other suggestions in between

Expeditions
  • This requires the group to undertake a 4 day, 3
    night expedition, where the team is self
    contained both from the point of view of food and
    also travel
  • Teams are currently undertaking both
  • foot and water borne expeditions
  • During the expedition the team undertake a study
    on which they report
  • their findings at the end

Residential
  • This is where the participant undertakes a
    residential project mainly with people they have
    not met before
  • The residential will have an aim and is a total
    of 4 nights and 5 days
  • There are numerous opportunities

  • Having a D of E Award is like having an
    unofficial GCSE
  • Attaining a D of E Award demonstrates a persons
    depth and commitment
