2DB/Text vs Content Server
As the diagram illustrates, Inmagics software
tools TextWorks and WebPublisher PRO are
available with two back-ends the proprietary
DB/Text back-end or MS SQL Server. () Please
note that TextWorks and WebPublisher PRO work in
a nearly identical manner on either platform. As
a result, migration from DB/Text to Content
Server is straightforward. As an aid to
migration, Inmagic supplies a conversion tool
that automates much of the work involved in
moving your data, forms, reports and Web
interface from DB/Text to Content Server. While
the conversion is straightforward, we recommend
that you work with Inmagics Professional
Services Group or a local reseller, to ensure
that your Content Server installation goes
smoothly and migration issues are addressed
quickly and efficiently.
3Inmagic Content Server
Inmagic Content Server Customers that need
enhanced scalability, reliability and
compatibility with IT standards should consider
the Inmagic Content Server platform. Content
Server utilizes a MicrosoftSQL Server data
store to provide enterprise-wide scalability. In
addition, many clients need enhanced reliability
and wish to take advantage of the true
client/server architecture of Content Server, in
order to assure data integrity. Other clients may
have strict IT requirements and Content Server
provides an environment that is familiar to IT
when performing activities such as backup.
4Inmagic DB/Text
Inmagic DB/Text The Inmagic DB/Text platform
provides a robust environment for building
standalone, networked, and/or web-enabled
textbases. It is built on a proprietary database
store in a file sharing environment. In use at
thousands of organizations around the world over
the past ten years, the DB/Text platform is a
good option for organizations with little or no
IT support and where database size, scalability,
and IT standards are less of a concern. Platform
options are important and we know that not all of
our customers require the power and scalability
of the Content Server environment. The choice of
which platform is right for you is yours to make.
