The Rise of Japan

• Japan wanted to become a superpower and America
  had some contribution to this by supplying Japan
  with the knowledge and supplies to go to war.
• Japan was upset with the League of Nations and
  the pressure they put on Japan to stop their
  actions.

• Japan was heavily involved in WWII, the war
  America had wanted to stay out of.
• Japan was angry at America for supporting their
  enemies and aiding others but not fighting.
• Admiral Chuichi Nagumo was the commander of the
  attack on America.

Plans in Motion

• Roosevelt sent the US Navy fleet to Pearl Harbor
  in order to deter an attack from Japan, thinking
  Hawaii was too far for an attack.
• Japanese intelligence gained information about
  Pearl Harbor and the US Naval movement through
  spies.

Was there any warning?

• Japan sent threats of war and attacks on US soil,
  but they were dismissed and seen only as threats.
• The day of the attack, 30 minutes before the
  first hits US received a warning
• The message was not relayed fast enough and
  therefore caused the Surprise attack at Pearl
  Harbor
