NSG 2070 Technical Benefits
  • Voltmeter display with 1, 3, 10V - 20 LED bar
display (low accuracy) - Display relative to the
voltage level- Suggestion not to use external
meters (this would discover the bad output
    linearity)
  • Output voltage resolution 0.1V- 100 steps
    0.1...10.0V
  • Frequency range up to 250 MHz

Hardware Features
NSG 2070
CWS 500
  • Interface RS 232
  • Interface IEEE
  • Fail inputs
  • PRE AMP OUT / IN
  • Modulation AM 0..100
  • Modulation frequency 2Hz, 400Hz

4
8
NSG 2070 Benefits Display
  • Big letters for the frequency (double space)
  • For each new entered parameter, the NSG 2070
calculates the duration of the test.
  • During a test procedure, the elapsed time and a
graphic bar with display show the test
    progress.
  • Languages selectable German, French, Italien,
English BUT Software is only in English

NSG 2070 Handling Disadvantages
  • Setting with the rotary encoder is
    troublesome.The rotary encoder locks depending
on the position, but has a long run-down after
releasing it.It is difficult to set a value
accurately. Sometimes after releasing the knob,
it rotates some steps more and changes to another
    than the desired value.

6
10
NSG 2070 Handling Disadvantages
  • The setting of a value is only accepted after
having pressed the ENTER key.Pressing another
function key prior to having pressed ENTER will
cancel the previously set value and it returns to
    the default value.
  • Quick Start can be selected only after the key
PAUSE has been activated. This function is not
    documented in the manual.

7
11
NSG 2070 Power up
  • Warm-up time is 5 to 7 minutes and is indicated
    in the display.
  • During the warm-up the NSG 2070 allows to execute
    all tests.
  • After a short switch of OFF and ON, a new warm
    -up period starts.

8
12
NSG 2070 Linearity of the Frequency
  • In the lower and upper frequency the voltage
level is out of the spec.
  • The tolerance acc. to the standard is 25
  • The measured value shall be Uo/6 for each voltage
    level. 10V gt 1.66V 3V gt 0.5V 1V gt
    0.16V

NSG 2070 RF signal 100 overshoot
  • Each change of the RF signal with a new frequency
starts with a 100 overshoot of the set output
    value.
  • The EUT is overtested and is therefore
    inacceptable.

NSG 2070 T2 fixed attenuator 4dB
  • IEC 61000-4-6 reccommand a T2 attenuator for
reduce the mismatch from the power amplifier to
    the network.
  • T2 attenuator Standard fixed gt 6dB (see clause
    6.1 Test generator)

IEC 61000-4-6
Schaffner delivers a T2 attenuator with 4dB

15
Application Current Injection Clamp
  • No support from the NSG 2070 manual is available.
  • Firmware is prepared to operate with a current
    clamp.
  • Application with NSG 2070 does not work
  • Measurement with current probe reduces the output
    voltage after each frequency step.
  • There is no control that uses the feedback
    current measuring
  • The measurement and displax of Imax Uo/ 150?
    does not exist.

?
12
16
NSG 2070 Verification
  • Any verification with the delivered 4dB
attenuator will destroy the internal mearuring
    equipment.
  • The manual recomends a 20dB attenuator which is
not part of the delivery and not even on the
    options list.
  • A user who tries a verification without reading
carefully the manual has to replace the fuse.

13
17
Application Sweep
  • Frequency sweep
  • Voltage sweep
  • Dwell time sweep
  • Recovery time in sweep

14
18
NSG 2070 Standard Tests
  • There is no function key for a complete Standard
    Test procedure with
  • Frequency 0.15...80MHz
  • VoltageLevesl 1V, 3V, 10V
  • Modulation 80AM
  • Procedure for a Standard Test with NSG 2070
  • Select VOLTAGE in the Voltage Menu
  • Select LOAD for setting up frequency and
    calibration (CDN or Clamp)
  • Before running the test, check carefully all
    parameters
  • - It is possible that preset parameters will
    be overwritten.
  • Standard Tests at different levels in one cycle
    are not possible

Settings correct ? Check before starting a
test!

NSG 2070 Pulse Modulation
  • Pulse modulation is a separate routine with a
    fixed PM frequency and voltage.Frequency,
repetition rate and duty cycle are the selectable
    parameters.
  • For pulse modulation the repetition rate ranges
    from 10Hz...10kHz
  • Pulse modulation 1Hz is required in EN 50130-4
    (Alarm system)

EN 50130-4 1995 for Alarm Systems requires a 1
Hz pulse modulation

NSG 2070 Calibration
  • Internal Memory for - 20 CDN - 2 EM
    Clamps - 2 Current clamps, 1 Monitor
  • Only by using a PC, it is possible to see the
    CDNs name!
  • During the calibration, the NSG 2070 shows the
    actual frequency in steps.

Calibration Disadvantages
  • No access to the Calibration data
  • It is not possible to check the calibration data
  • No calibration curve is available
  • Calibration with an external meter is not
    possible
  • Limited to 900 measurements / decade
  • Calibration possible with reduced frequency
    range
  • A test exceeding the calibrated range does not
    work later.

Software
  • Run-time Control
  • The time must be set otherwise the test stops
    unexpected.
  • SW features in CWS 500 available
  • Fail event with different fail handling
  • Remote control for external measuring instrument

20
24
Software Calibration
  • Calibration with internal power meter
  • Calibration with external power meter
  • Up and download of calibration files
  • Printout of calibration files

Software Comment Input
  • NSG 2070
  • One comment box for the complete test
  • The user has to note frequency and voltage
    himself.
  • CWS 500
  • For each interruption a separate comment line is
    offered
  • Frequency and voltage are automatically registered
