Title: Physics for You
1Learning Objectives
P1a 9b
This PowerPoint file contains some Learning
Objectives for this topic in the Edexcel
specification. Only a limited amount of colour
has been used on these slides, but of course you
can customise them in any way you wish. As well
as introducing each lesson with the relevant
slide, and using the slide to summarise at the
end of the lesson, you may also find the slides
useful for a quick revision course. So that you
can tell when to stop clicking, the last line
(only) on each slide has a full stop. To view a
PowerPoint in Full Screen mode, either press
Function key ltF5gt, or right-click your mouse and
select Full Screen.
Chapter 31 Edexcel topic P1a 9b Current and
Resistance
2Current and ResistanceYou should learn
Chapter 31
- A complete circuit is needed for a current to
flow - All metals are good conductors
- Electricity tends to travel by the easiest path
- Current is measured by an ammeter, placed in
series in a circuit - Potential difference is measured by a voltmeter,
placed in parallel.
P1a 9b
3Current and ResistanceYou should learn
Chapter 31
- The resistance of a wire depends on
- - its length,
- - its cross-sectional area,
- - the substance it is made of,
- - its temperature.

4Current and ResistanceYou should learn
Chapter 31
- On a current voltage graph, the steeper the
graph, the lower the resistance - A light-dependent resistor (LDR) changes its
resistance when light shines on it. In bright
light it has a low resistance - A thermistor changes its resistance when its
temperature changes. When it is hot it has a low
resistance.
