- In K-8 research strand was integrated into the
Oral Language, Reading, and Writing strands - Specific references for fluency were added to the
standards for second and third grades - Standards for vocabulary/concept development and
comprehension strategies were strengthened at all
grade levels

- Summary of Major Changes
- In grades 3 through 8 the comprehension standards
were organized into strategies for fiction and
strategies for nonfiction. - In grades 9 through 12 the comprehension/
analysis standards were organized into strategies
for literature, informational text, poetry, and
drama.

- Summary of Major Changes
- Standards for English Language Proficiency were
developed and are included in the document at the
end of the elementary, middle and secondary
standards - ELP Standards are aligned with and in some
instances are the same as the English standards.

- Essential Knowledge, Skills or Process
- At least a one-to-one correspondence between the

Crosswalk Distribution
- Print copies of the Standards of Learning and one
copy of the English Curriculum Framework will be
sent to school divisions by the end of May - One CD-ROM with the English Standards of
Learning, the crosswalk, and the English
Curriculum Framework in Word and PDF will be sent
to each school and central office by the end of
May.

administration

- SEA awards competitive subgrants to Local
Educational Agencies (LEA) for eligible Title I
schools for K-3 Reading. - Funding for SEA to provide technical assistance
to the LEA and schools receiving Reading First
subgrants.

on using Scientifically-Based Reading Research
