6How Can Parents/Guardians Help?
Your most important role is one of support. Many
students have concerns about going into the world
of work. Talk about these concerns, drawing on
your own experiences of starting work. Discuss
the type of placement they would like to visit.
Family or friends may be able to help with
placements there may be an opportunity for an
Own Arrangement. When the big day arrives give
them an alarm call lateness is inexcusable!
Remind them to take all their paperwork with them
Letter of Introduction, Employers Report Form,
Student Log Book. Lastly, SUPPORT. Its so
important its worth repeating. Ask them how
theyre getting on each day.

8Own Arrangements?
Students have the opportunity of arranging their
own Work Experience placements. Let your
imagination run wild. There are a few limitations
on placements but most businesses qualify as
placements. You do not have to stay within the
county but if you arrange Work Experience in
another part of the UK you are responsible for
all travel and accommodation costs. Own
Arrangements usually take time for the required
checks and you should send full details of any
placement to school as soon as possible. This is
especially important if the placement is out of
county as the checks can easily take months.

9Course Specific Own Arrangements?
Students on Course Specific Work Experience have
the opportunity of arranging their own
placements. Before making any arrangement you
will need to discuss your ideas with your
teacher. There will be limitations on placements
that qualify as providing the necessary
experience. Own Arrangements usually take time
for the required checks and you should send full
details of any placement to school as soon as
possible. This is best done through your teacher
who will pass the details to the Work Experience
team if the placement meets the course
specifications.

Experience placements. Their suitability is
checked by Hereford Worcester Education
Business Link (EBL). They check ALL placements
own arrangements and school arrangements. The
checks include Risk Assessments, Healthy Safety
procedures and the companys insurances. Checks
