Title: Discovering why OSU students have the lowest national GRE scores

1
Discovering why OSU students have the lowest
national GRE scores
  • By David Hines
  • Stephen Kerns

2
Motivation
  • Dean Buck has been reviewing OSU GRE scores and
noticed that they are well below average, and
much lower than their northern rival
  • Based on www.ets.org statistics from 2003-2006

3
What is wrong with OSU Students
  • After speaking with leading scientist, Dean Buck
thought there are 3 possible reasons
  • Students are genetically stupid
  • Students drink to much and therefore have no
    brain cells
  • Students never learned to read

4
Experiments
  • To test his three hypothesis the following tests
were conducted on 3 different groups of OSU
    students
  • A blood assay to determine the presence of the M
    intelligence gene
  • CT scan to determine active brain cells
  • Asked each student to read Go Dog Go

5
Experimental Results
  • The following scaled GRE scoreresults were
    collected
  • i1represents failing/negative test
  • i2 represents passing/positive test

6
Yates Algorithm Solution
  • Create table with experiments listed in specific
Yates Algorithm order in first column and Totals
    listed in second column.

7
Yates Algorithm Solution (contd)
  • For the next column add the pairs of rows in the
first column to obtain the first four rows and
subtract the same pairs to obtain the next four
    rows.

8
Yate Algorithm (contd)
  • Repeat for the number of factors (i.e. fill out
the 3rd 4th columns in the same fashion as the
2nd). Ignoring the 1st row, the highest value in
the final column indicates the row with the
combination of levels of the factors with the
    strongest effect.

9
Conclusion
  • Dean Buck wept for many moons as he came to the
realization that OSU students are genetically
inferior and never learned the proper skills to
read even the simplest of childrens books.
Therefore there is no chance that OSU
    undergraduates will pass the GRE.
