Title: FIRE PREVENTION

1
FIRE PREVENTION
  • WHEN FIRE STRIKES
  • GET OUT
  • AND
  • STAY OUT!

2
  • The objective is to provide kids with the basic
knowledge of fire prevention and how to use it.
People die more in fires than any other natural
disasters. Children yearly start close to
    100,000 fires that cause damage.

3
Age group kindergarten and first grade with the
help of eighth graders.
  • Today the eighth graders will pair with the
    kindergarteners/first graders to inform them
about fire prevention with the information
provided. They will read the slides to them and
go through the quiz and everything else with
them. This will not only inform the younger
kids, but also help the older kids to learn how
    to use power point.

4
SMOKE ALARMS
  • Smoke alarms notify you when smoke is sensed,
even if you dont actually see fire.

5
A smoke alarm is a tool that sits on the ceiling.
When a fire occurs it sends off a loud beeping
noise.
6
  • Smoke alarms should be place near bedrooms
  • Test the sound monthly
  • Batteries need replacement annually
  • Keep clean and free from dust

7
9-1-1
  • As soon as you hear the smoke alarm, grab the
    phone and dial 9-1-1!
  • Firefighters will arrive ASAP!

8
ESCAPE PLAN
  • Its a proven fact that kids tend to hide in the
occurrence of a fire, however it is VERY
    IMPORTANT to get out FAST!

9
  • Escape plans should hopefully get you out of your
home quickly and safely. In case if one way of
your plan is blocked, it is for your benefit to
    have an alternative route.

10
Making a plan is easy!
  • Find two exits for each room in your home
  • Doors are recommended to be used first
  • Feel the door for heat. If the door is hot, use
    the alternative route
  • Due to high temperatures, stay low to the ground
  • Safely meet your family in a designated area
  • Call 9-1-1 if the situation is safe
  • If you are stuck, hang something out of the
window so firemen can see you

11
STOP, DROP, AND ROLL
  • If your clothes catch on fire stop what you are
doing, drop on the floor, and roll to put out the
    flames.

12
Safe in the Home
  • Fires are dangerous and can cause a lot of
    damage.
  • Fires commonly ignite in the kitchen, furnace
    room, and garage.

13
Kitchen
  • Dont cook or use the stove without an adult.
  • Handles on pots should be placed inward (toward
center) to prevent it from being pulled or
    knocked down.
  • Hot appliances should NEVER be left unattended.

14
Within your Home
  • Nothing should ever be put over a light or lamp
  • Keep your distance from the fireplace so you
dont get burned or catch on fire
  • Never play with matches, lighters, or candles

15
Electric
  • NO HORSEPLAY with or around electrical outlets.
  • Do NOT stick anything in an electrical outlet.
  • Turn off electrical appliances when leaving the
    room or done using them.
