Haddon Township Project 540
Committee on Community Recreation Presentation to
Board of Commissioners May 16, 2006
2
What is Project 540?
  • Haddon Township High Schools Chapter of Project
540 was created for students who had a desire to
spark improvement in their school, local
    community and nation.
  • During the 2002-2003 school year, a series of
dialogues were held in every Social Studies Class
at all grade levels. Input was gathered and
evaluated to see what types of changes the
    student body desired.
  • From those dialogues, Project 540 developed three
Action Plans to address the students concerns
School Lunch Program, School Grading and Class
Rank System, and the need for Community
    Recreation.

3
School Grading Committee
  • Developed a new proposal for
  • Grading Scale
  • Exam Weight
  • Final Year Grade Computation
  • Class Rank/GPA Computation
  • The Committee meets with Department Chairs in
order to prepare a Presentation to the School
    Board.

4
Lunch Committee
  • New lunch tables were placed outside of High
    School Cafeteria.
  • A new Milk Chug Machine was installed in the
    Cafeteria.
  • The Committee meets with Lunch Staff to address
concerns with lunch variety and service during
    YAK Sessions.

5
Recreation Committee
  • Created in November 2004, the Recreation
Committee assisted by Mellon Bank redeveloped the
Basketball Courts on MacArthur Blvd. next to the
    middle school.
  • Our goal is to identify and resolve the need for
a Recreation Center in Haddon Township.
  • Throughout the past couple of years we have
visited several centers in the surrounding area
to have a better understanding of their programs.
  • The Committee routinely meets to develop a plan
to meet the needs of Haddon Township and its
    residents.

WHERE WE ARE TODAY

    Haddon Township.
  • After instruction from the Board to gather more
information and report back, the Committee began
    its research.

  • Our research has included
  • Field Trips
  • Community Meetings
  • Town wide Survey
  • Program Development
  • Proposed Design
  • Creation of a Proposal

25
OUR GOAL
  • Now it is the opinion of the Project 540
Recreation Committee that we have presented a
viable template for a Recreation Center suitable
for every aspect of Haddon Townships population.
  • It is our hope that Haddon Township, through the
leadership of the Board of Commissioners, will
    undertake this project.
