Smart Goal
  • To Increase readers Text Connections from 15 to
    at least 25 proficiency as measured by the CMT
    test in March of 2007.
  • Met last years goal by increasing Initial
    Understanding to 62 !
  • Our goal was 55!

Reasons for Choosing Smart Goal
  • This is a new skill that had not been tested on
    previous CMTs.
  • This was the lowest area and we felt we could
    cause the greatest impact.
  • All curriculum areas could have use similar
    strategies to teach skill.

Activities to Reach our Goal
  • Use a CMT Practice Test to assess students
    starting point.
  • Develop and implement a common rubric for
    assessing text connection questions.
  • Meet as a team to share student work and our
    assessments.
  • Use trade books and other real-life sources for
    students to connect to in meaningful ways.

Team Trips
  • Literature trip to Springfield Symphony Hall to
    see 5 One-Act plays by the Chamber Theater
    December 12, 2006
  • Bronx Zoo trip June 2007. Culmination of
    cross-curriculum unit focusing on endangered
    species.

New Initiatives 2006-2007
  • PASS Two 7th graders currently in program are
    finding success in regular education classes.
  • Academic Assistance 13 students receive support
    in work completion, organization, and study
    skills 4 days a week.
  • Homework Club 14 seventh grade students have a
    place and time scheduled for homework completion
    with assistance when needed.

New Initiatives Continued
  • Increased in-class paraprofessionals support
    special education and struggling students.
  • Prime Time allows for small group discussions
    of important life-skill topics.
  • Results More students than ever are getting the
    help they need to be successful!

  • Complete curriculum work and receive the
    materials to support new frameworks
  • Reading Consultant to support teachers in Content
    areas
  • Continued support for struggling students
