Manager
2JAXAs GPM/DPR mission
- JAXAs GPM/DPR mission
- - Dual-frequency Precipitation Radar (DPR)
development - - Development of DPR and MWRs combined algorithms
for improvement of precipitation retrieval
accuracy from MWR - - Scientific research and demonstration of
operational applications such as numerical
weather forecast and disaster prevention program
(Processing DRP product, DPRMWRs product and
distribution) - GPM/DPR mission concept Produce highly accurate
and frequent precipitation data for operational
and scientific data use. - DPR is the key instrument in GPM mission. (DPR
information will improve MWRs rain retrieval
accuracy. )
3Objectives of DPR
- Three-Dimensional observation of precipitation
- Observation of light rainfall and snowfall,
taking advantage of high sensitivity of KaPR - Derivation of DSD (Drop Size Distribution)
parameter using differential attenuation method - Improvement of MWRs precipitation estimation
accuracy using the precipitation parameters (DSD,
melting level, rain type, storm height, etc.)
derived by DPR
4Concept of precipitation measurement by the GPM
core satellite
Objectives of DPR 1) Accurate and sensitive
precip. measurement 2) Improvement of
precipitation retrieval accuracy from MWRs
Dual-frequency precipitation radar (DPR) consists
of Ku-band (14GHz) radar KuPR and Ka-band
(35GHz) radar KaPR
