Title: Can a CAT Change its spots

1
Can a CAT Change its spots?
  • INFOhio's New OPAC

2
  • The new OPAC interface, the CAT replacement was
available last year in a test version this
    product is still under development
  • INFOhio has been and continues to maintain a
feedback site for our users suggestions made
here are vetted by the moderator Karen Coy -
and is then passed on to the development team
  • A coding problem, found just last week, was
determined to be causing slowness at many ITC's
was found and fixed last week.
  • If you have experienced poor response time this
week, please report the problem details to your
    INFOhio provider.

3
Work-Around for response issues.
  • For classroom instruction settingson your first
search, encourage your students to be patient and
not press additional buttons. The launching of
multiple first searches takes CAT awhile to
    process
  • For research instruction consider using the
Library Catalog feature in SchoolRooms coming
    this Fall stay tuned!
  • For lower grades encourage the use of Cat Jr.

4
Most requested change with the new release
  • Users would like the holdings to display in the
    brief listincluding
  • Call Number
  • Status
  • Item Type
  • Material Type Icon
  • This work on this is currently underway

A note about PIN numbers. If your student data
is loaded by the automatic patron updating
process the PIN's will be automatically
populated. If you send a file to your ITC that
is manually loaded, the PIN field will only be
populated if your data includes the student
birthday. Your INFOhio support person can
populate the PIN field for you or you can
manually change the PIN by using the Modify User
Wizard in WorkFlows. An override password is
required.

  • My account can turned on or off by building
  • You can run a master list of patron barcode
numbers and/or Alt ID numbers and PIN's using the
INFOhio PAT Patron List report I recommend the
spread sheet option. See Chapter 15.8.5a of the
    online manual

14
Encouraging users to log off assures that when
patrons go to your OPAC terminal to search they
can choose which CAT to search. Timed out
session will return to the splash screen
15
This list shows the specific marc tags are being
searched when you execute specific types of
searches. Keep this in mind when you are
importing MARC records through SmartPORT. The
OPAC can't search information that isn't in the
record this is especially important with series
titles.
16
Let's search!
  • You can launch 5 different types of searches from
    the Quick Search Screen
