Fundraising The staple of your chapter
  • Purpose
  • Provides Income to cover trips, materials, and
anything you need for your chapter
  • Allows for future growth! A larger chapter means
more members, which means more chance to learn,
    and grow.
  • It brings your chapter together. The more
opportunities you allow your members to
experience the AITP sensation the more theyre
going to tell others about it.

6
Fundraising The staple of your chapter
  • Priority One
  • No money means no fun! Fundraising is a must for
    every student club.
  • Showcase your chapter at events. By being
involved in fundraising you give you and your
chapter the chance to meet, compete and show your
talents off to businesses across the country.
  • Fundraisers are your chance to get new members.
People want to be where the funs at.

7
Fundraising The staple of your chapter
  • What can fundraising do for you?
  • Doing fundraisers is much more than just raising
money to go somewhere. Its about bringing those
both outside of AITP and those in AITP together.
  • Fundraising can be your chance to get your
community involved in a good cause, and also shed
light onto your chapter and AITP.
  • Use fundraising to teach others. Classes and
    seminars are perfect for this.
  • Most importantly, it can allow you to have fun!

8
Getting Started
  • On Campus
  • Flyers, flyers, flyers. Use the resources that
    AITP gives you
  • http//www.aitp.org/organization/profile/promotion
    /promotion.jsp
  • Word of mouth is your friend. The more excited
you are about your chapter, the more others will
be. If they like AITP, remind them to bring in
    there friends.
  • Get faculty involved, both those in the IT
field and those outside of IT. Everyone uses
computers today, so let them know its not just
    for people in IT.
  • Above all, dont give up! As long as youre
    trying, good things will happen.

9
Getting Started
  • Outreach
  • Be active in your community and on campus. Setup
tutoring to bring in some extra money, or talk to
schools and see if you can stop by and help out
    there students with computer skills.
  • Invite the community to your seminars and
training. Most people will pay above the cost of
entry if they know its going to a good cause.
  • Email or write to newspapers asking if they can
cover your event, or post an article of yours.
Most will do it for school functions and or
    groups.
  • Spread the word. The more people who knows about
your chapter and AITP, the more who will help
    out.

10
Getting Started
  • Youre not alone
  • Remember, youre not alone. Dont be afraid to
ask for help. You have a parent chapter,
surrounding student chapters and essentially all
of AITP to lean on when you need guidance or
    support.
  • Try to setup fundraisers will other chapters to
encourage more money to come in and also network.
  • If all else fails, email the Student Leadership
Council. Were here to help you, no matter what
state youre in, were here for you.

11
Implementing your ideas
  • Build your network
  • No one can do it all alone. So rally the
chapter, friends, family and get them behind your
chapter. With a strong foundation youll have the
    support you need.
  • Dont be afraid to ask faculty for help or
advice, win them over and youve got free
    publicity.
  • Again, go to the papers, news, the internet to

12
Implementing your ideas
  • Be passionite
  • One of the most important things to remember
about running a student chapter, is to be
passionite about what youre doing and why your
doing it. Simply wanting to raise money is nice,
but having a reason thats meaningful will always
    yield more results.
  • Share you passion with everyone. Let everyone
know youre progress of the fundraiser, chapter
or anything for that matter. When they see how
excited and driven about it you are, it will move
    them as well.
  • Make it fun. Its been said before, but its so
important, the more fun you have the better. AITP
is a network of friends and family, so make it
entertaining and youll get much more out of it.

13
Implementing your ideas
  • Leave no idea behind
  • When thinking of fundraisers, often the ones that
dont sound like it will do well just might have
a good chance. Things such as cook-outs,
webinars, and other various ideas are often
    money-makers.
  • Utilize both on campus and off-campus
    opportunities. Often times restaurants and
business will gladly donate space, or items when
given the chapters Non profit number.
  • Find out what your members want to learn, do, see
etc. It may not be much, but those ideas can
    quickly turn into solid fundraisers.

14
Lets get into action
  • Making it happen
  • Once you start, dont quit, no matter what. Even
fundraisers that dont produce a great deal of
money are still producing money. Canceling events
often leads to people not trusting that youll
    get youre next event up.
  • Break the event into steps. Doing everything at
once only causes things to go unfinished, or left
out all together. Assign separate tasks for each
member so things go more smoothly.

15
Lets get into action
  • Gaines and Losses
  • After your fundraisers are over, sit down and
rethink how everything went. Did your bake sale
sell as much food as you though? Did your raffle
    bring in enough?
  • Rotate your fundraisers, sure doing the
fundraiser that brings in the most is great, but
its also boring! Make sure youre rotating your
fundraisers and keep them fresh and new.

16
Howd it go?
  • Rewards
  • Reward those who helped out. Sure its expected
for members to help out, but recognize those who
did and do so in front of everyone in your
chapter so they can see what they are missing out
    on.
  • Make sure to thank and possibly even give a gift
to those outside the chapter that helped during
your fundraiser. It doesnt have to be expensive,
but when people donate their time, money etc it
    never hurts to thank them.
  • Try offering prizes for the Top 3 members who
make the most money. Everyone loves competition
so make it interesting and enjoy the increase in
    sales.

17
Howd it go?
  • Plan ahead
  • Now that everything is over, its time to start
planning for the next fundraiser. I dont like to
go to far without having one as it lowers the
amount in your chapters bank and its fun, so
    why not enjoy them.
  • Think about what worked, what didnt and keep
track of it. By keeping a spreadsheet of
everything youll be able to monitor which events
raised the most, and also what items brought in
    the money.
  • Encourage those who didnt participate to do so
next time and show them why. Letting them know
what they will get if they do participate will
allow them to see the value of being active in
    the chapter.

18
Proven Tips and Ideas
  • Proven ideas that can help!
  • In the next slides Ill give some personal
events that have helped not just our chapter,
but fellow chapters as well. The ideas came from
both students, faculty, friends, and the internet
    so enjoy.
  • If you have any ideas youd like to share simply
send them to jasles7597_at_gmail.com and Ill review
them and possibly include them in the upcoming
    newsletter!

    participating restaurants if they have
connections to vendors who might donate paper
    products.
  • Recruit judges (celebrities, athletes, chefs) for
    the competition.
  • Ask your local trophy company to create a plaque

each group a registration fee and divide teams by
ability level. You can also ask bowlers to get
pledges in advance in addition to a registration
fee! Have groups sign-up during the weeks leading
    to the event.
  • Prep Steps

free of charge, or for a low cost. Try to know in

door or have folks sign-up and pay beforehand so

or charge a special all-you-can eat price!

dont have to re-create the whole experience, but

  • Prep Steps

group wash windows in exchange for a small
donation to your play space project.

    supplies you will need!
