Attendance

• This is an indicator for Adequate Yearly
  Progress! In order to meet standards, we must
  have 15 of our population miss no more than 15
  days.
• Make-up Work Students will be allowed to make
  up any missed assignments for excused absences
  within 3 days of the students return to school.

Parent Notification

• 2nd unexcused or 5th excused absence in a
  semester, the school will notify the students
  parent/guardian in writing of the consequences
  and penalties associated with school absences in
  accordance with Policy JBD.
• All absences beyond the fifth excused absence for
  medical reasons require an original medical
  excuse signed by a health care professional.

What happens next?

• 3rd unexcused or 7th absence from school in a
  semester without appropriate documentation, the
  student will be reported to the appropriate legal
  authority for investigation and possible referral
  to the legal authority having jurisdiction over
  such matters.
• Upon a students 10th absence in a semester, the
  school shall review the students attendance
  record. Referral may be made to the appropriate
  legal authority for further investigation.

Excused Absences

• Personal Illness
• Serious illness or death of an immediate family
  (immediate family includes parents/legal
  guardians grandparents, siblings, and stepfamily)
• Special and recognized religious holidays
  recognized by their faith
• Mandated order of government agencies
• Emergencies which reasonably necessitate absences
  from school
• Special events which reasonably necessitate
  absences from school as listed below
• Post-secondary education visits to colleges or
  universities beyond 50 miles
• Chamber of Commerce Youth Leadership events
• Participation in events or programs sponsored by
  national organizations, colleges, or universities
• Any other special event recommended by the school
  principal and approved by the associate
  superintendent

Prior Approval No More

• Requests to be absent for other special events
  not listed require written notification to and
  approval by the office of the assistant
  superintendent of student support prior to the
  absence.

Perfect Attendance

• Perfect Attendance
• Quarterly No absences, tardies or check-outs.
• Yearly No absences, three tardies or
  check-outs.
• On-going therapy or medical treatment For the
  purpose of quarterly perfect attendance only, we
  will allow students to complete an on-going
  medical treatment form to excuse them to attend
  monthly or weekly doctors appointments. For the
  yearly attendance, the above policy remains.

Promotion and Retention

• Kindergarten
• A variety of information including classroom
  performance and GKAP
• Grades 1 and 2
• Must maintain overall passing grades in the area
  of Language Arts
• Grade 2 will receive a letter if student did not
  meet state requirements in the area of reading
• Grade 3
• Must pass 3 of 4 core subject areas AND must meet
  or exceed state requirements on the CRCT (score
  300 or above) in the area of reading.
• Grade 4
• Must pass 3 of 4 core subject areas.
• Parent will receive a letter if student did not
  meet state requirements in the areas of reading
  and/or math.
• Grade 5
• Must pass 3 of 4 core subject areas AND must meet
  or exceed state requirements on the CRCT (score
  300 or above) in the area of reading and math.

Parent Conferences

• Parents are always encouraged to conference with
  teachers regarding their childrens progress!
• We ask that you call to make an appointment so
  that teachers can devote their full attention to
  you and your concerns.
• Please do not stop by the classroom between the
  hours of 800 and 345, unless you have signed in
  at the office. This is for the safety of all
  students!

Homework Fosters a Sense of Responsibility in our
Students While Reinforcing Important Concepts

• Kindergarten 15 minutes
• Grade 1 30 minutes
• Grades 2,3 45 minutes
• Grades 4,5 60 minutes
• Remember, studying for tests nightly is an
  important part of homework!

What if my child is having trouble completing
homework in the average time frame?

• Try to figure out why the child is not completing
  it in a timely manner
• Is he/she distracted by other family members,
  animals, television, etc?
• Does he/she seem frustrated and cries often
  during homework time?
• Is he/she managing the time spent actually
  working appropriately, or is their a large amount
  of time spent preparing to work?
• Tip Dont ask your child if homework is
  complete, ask to see the completed homework!

Health and Medication

• If your child is experiencing vomiting or fever,
  please do not allow the child to return to school
  for 24 hours.
• You will be contacted if your childs fever
  escalates above 99.6 degrees. We ask that you
  come get your child when the fever reaches or
  exceeds 100 degrees.
• All medication must be checked in with the nurse
  in the original container.

Use of Telephones

• Students may use the telephone in the case of an
  emergency only! (Forgotten homework, field trip
  forms, or signed papers are not emergencies.?)

The Wolfeteria

• We ask that you do not bring fast food into the
  lunchroom.
• We ask that you do not bring canned drinks or
  sodas into the lunchroom.
• Due to new laws governing school nutrition, paras
  are unable to warm food for students. You must
  use a thermos if you wish to provide warm soup.

Dress Code

• Shorts fingertip length
• Shoes no flip flops or slide on shoes
• Sleeveless shirts three fingers wide
• Pants appropriate length, not dragging the
  floor
• No mid-drift tops
• No inappropriate wording or disrespectful
  language on tops
• No hats in the building, except on hat days

Arrival and Dismissal

• Students may not enter the building before 800.
• Please do not park in the front parking lot
  during the hours of 800-830 and 315-400.
• We ask that you allow students to walk themselves
  to class after this week.
• Please plan to pick up children no later than
  345.
• When checking students out early, be prepared to
  show a picture ID.
• Because we are busy right until dismissal, we ask
  that you try to avoid getting your children
  between 300 and 330 p.m.

You must show a photo id. when checking out
through the office.
