31. Introduction
About Me
- I graduated from Fairleigh Dickenson University
where I received a Bachelor's and Masters Degree
in the Fields of Education and Mathematics.
- In my spare time I mentor and tutor children.
41. Introduction
Now its your turn!!!
Say your name, and your childs name. Then say
one thing you like to do in your spare time.
You will now take turns telling something about
yourself.
52. Class Seating
This is how the classroom will be set up during
the year. It is a student centered classroom. The
teachers desk is in the back of the class. I will
be changing seating arrangements periodically
throughout the year in order to keep them even in
terms of strength of the group.
63.Building Class Rules
Building rules are specifically stated in the
student handbook. A letter is sent home that must
be signed that also states the rules. Please open
your student book to pg.8 so that we may review
the rules.
Class rules are as follows
- Respect others.
- Do your own work!
- Always be prepared.
- Homework is due the next day.
- If you have a question raise your hand.
74.Class Schedule
Most classes are approximately 55 minuets long.
Your children will be given 5 minuets to settle
down after the final bell rings.
84.Class Schedule
The rest of the class will proceed as follows
- 10 minuets will be given to review homework. If
there are still questions they will be answered
after class, during lunch, or after school. - There will be a 30 minute lesson given.
- The lesson will be followed with 5 minuets for
questions. - The last five minuets of class will be
preparation for that nights homework.
95. Expectations
I expect my students to give me one hundred
percent effort when they walk through my door. I
believe that there is no stupid question, and
expect my students to ask any
question they feel necessary in order to
understand the material given to them. If one of
my students needs help I would expect them to
come to me before or
after school to get the help they need. Homework
is due then next class period. Students are
expected to have the assignment completed
everyday!
106. Assessment
Students will keep mini portfolios of all of
their work through out the year. They will
include tests, quizzes, graded homework, and any
extra credit that may have been done.
At the end of each marking period the portfolios
will be assessed in terms of grades, improvement.
I will also factor in class participation and
attendance. One of my philosophys is, A little
effort can go a long way, imagine what a lot of
effort can do! If I see that one of my students
is struggling but putting in a lot of effort I
may curve a grade to show their effort.
117. Homework Policy
- Students are expected to have their homework
completed by the beginning of the next class
period. - Cheating is not prohibited. If a student is
caught cheating their homework will not be
submitted and they
- will receive a ZERO for the assignment.
- The use of some websites is allowed. I have sent
home a list of homework help websites that the
students may use to get help with their homework.

- Emergency exits and routes are clearly marked
for every room. -
- Students will be informed of the fire routes for
each class the first day of classes. -
- Students will also be informed of any rules
during a fire drill such as silence while walking
through the halls and staying together as a group
until we are back in class.
1510. Snow Days
There will be a contact list given out to let you
know who will call you when there is a delayed
opening or canceled school. You can also listen
to your local radio station for any announcements
on delayed openings or cancellations in the area.
Snow days will be made up at the end of the
school year if necessary. If possible we will try
to have a delayed opening as to avoid having to
make up any missed days of school.
1611. Absent
The Attendance Secretary must be notified by 900
am if a student is going to be absent. The number
to call is (908) 273-1491. This number is also
located on the quick reference guide that I
handed out in the beginning of the night. Too
many absences may result in academic difficulties
as well as grade reductions.
1712. Questions
I would now like to give you the opportunity to
ask any question or bring up any concerns you may
have in regards to anything we have covered
tonight.
1813. What do You Want to See in the Class?
One the note card that I have handed out write
three things you would like to see happen in the
classroom.
- An example is
- A lot of one on one attention.
- Practice guides for tests.
- Weekly quizzes.
