When was the Covenant Established?
  • PP 303 .1 Soon after the encampment at Sinai,
Moses was called up into the mountain to meet
with God. Alone he climbed the steep and rugged
path, and drew near to the cloud that marked the
place of Jehovah's presence. Israel was now to be
taken into a close and peculiar relation to the
Most High--to be incorporated as a church and a
nation under the government of God.
  •
  • PP 303.3 Moses returned to the camp, and having
summoned the elders of Israel, he repeated to
them the divine message. Their answer was, "All
that the Lord hath spoken we will do." Thus they
entered into a solemn covenant with God, pledging
themselves to accept Him as their ruler, by which
they became, in a special sense, the subjects of
    His authority.

6
Why does God desire a denominated people?
  • PK 15.2 Men had well-nigh lost the knowledge of
the true God. Their minds were darkened by
idolatry. For the divine statutes, which are
"holy, and just, and good" (Romans 712), men
were endeavouring to substitute laws in harmony
with the purposes of their own cruel, selfish
hearts. Yet God in His mercy did not blot them
out of existence. He purposed to give them
opportunity for becoming acquainted with Him
through His church. He designed that the
principles revealed through His people should be
the means of restoring the moral image of God in
    man.
  •
  • PK 16.1 God's law must be exalted, His authority
maintained and to the house of Israel was given
this great and noble work. God separated them
from the world, that He might commit to them a
sacred trust. He made them the depositaries of
His law, and He purposed through them to preserve
among men the knowledge of Himself. Thus the
light of heaven was to shine out to a world
enshrouded in darkness, and a voice was to be
heard appealing to all peoples to turn from
idolatry to serve the living God.

What is the Seven Times Punishment ?
  • Seven completion (Gen 22 God , Josh 615)
  • Prophetically Time a prophetic year (Rev
    1214, Dan 127)
  • Year 360 literal years (Num 1434 Ezek

What was the view of the pioneers?
  • William Miller Applied the seven times to the
    Southern Kingdom of Israel
  • Hiram Edson Applied the seven times to the
    Northern Kingdom of Israel

9
What were Millers thoughts ?
  • William Miller, A TRILOGY pages 20-22 Seven
prophetic years would be seven times 360, equal
to 2520 years. This bondage must begin with the
kingdom of Babylon, the first kingdom of Daniels
four monarchies, which kingdoms which were to
make war with the saints and prevail against them
until the ancient of days came and these were to
scatter the people of God into all kingdoms of
the earth and have dominion over them and
    exercise authority upon them
  • When, then, may we not ask, did the bondage of
the children of God begin? I answer, when LITERAL
BABYLON began to exercise authority over them. In
the twenty-second year of Manassehs reign, in
the year before Christ 677bc, the last of the 10
tribes were carried away and Israel ceased to be
a nation according to the prophecy...

What were Millers thoughts ?
  • PK 382.3 Faithfully the prophets continued
their warnings and their exhortations fearlessly
they spoke to Manasseh and to his people but the
messages were scorned backsliding Judah would
not heed. As an earnest of what would befall the
people should they continue impenitent, the Lord
permitted their king to be captured by a band of
Assyrian soldiers, who "bound him with fetters,
and carried him to Babylon," their temporary
    capital.

12
What were Hiram Edsons thoughts ?
  • H. Edson article The Times Of The Gentiles. RH
Jan 10, 1856 God had said by ALL his servants
the prophets on this point of giving Israel over
into captivity to be trodden down of the Gentiles
like the mire of the streets." The validity of
the above testimony cannot be invalidated or
impeached hence there can be no room left for
further doubt on this so clear a point. This,
then, is the inspired historical event and its
chronology, which is 723 B. C., is the point from
which to reckon the 2520 years captivity. Instead
of reckoning from the taking of Manasseh, the
King of Judah to Babylon in the year 677 BC., we
reckon from the shutting up and binding in prison
Hoshea, the king of Israel, which was 723 BC The
year 723 BC is the true beginning, and 1798 is
the true terminus of the 2520 years captivity of
the people of God. And we have a historical
record of a corresponding event transpiring in
the year 1798, which perfectly answer the
fulfilment of the predictions of the prophets
which have foretold the events which mark the end
of the 2520 years indignation and captivity.

Does God gather His people again?
  • PK 382.3 This affliction brought the king to his
senses "he besought the Lord his God, and
humbled himself greatly before the God of his
fathers, and prayed unto Him and He was
entreated of him, and heard his supplication, and
brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom.
Then Manasseh knew that the Lord He was God." 2
    Chronicles 3311-13. But this repentance,
remarkable though it was, came too late to save
the kingdom from the corrupting influence of
years of idolatrous practices. Many had stumbled
and fallen, never again to rise.
  • PK 405.2 The time was rapidly approaching when
Jerusalem was to be utterly destroyed and the
inhabitants of the land carried captive to
Babylon, there to learn the lessons they had
refused to learn under circumstances more
    favorable.

  • Publishing Ministry, 175. Again and again I have
been shown that the past experiences of Gods
people are not to be counted as dead facts. We
are not to treat the record of these experiences
as we would treat a last years almanac. The
record is to be kept in mind, for history will
    repeat itself.
  • GC.611.2 The angel who unites in the
proclamation of the third angel's message is to
lighten the whole earth with his glory. A work of
world-wide extent and unwonted power is here
foretold. The advent movement of 1840-44 was a
glorious manifestation of the power of God the
first angel's message was carried to every
missionary station in the world, and in some
countries there was the greatest religious
interest which has been witnessed in any land
since the Reformation of the sixteenth century
but these are to be exceeded by the mighty
movement under the last warning of the third
    angel.

18
  • RH.1890 Aug 19th .4 When the third angel's
message is preached as it should be, power
attends its proclamation, and it becomes an
abiding influence. It must be attended with
divine power, or it will accomplish nothing. I am
often referred to the parable of the ten virgins,
five of whom were wise, and five foolish. This
parable has been and will be fulfilled to the
very letter, for it has a special application to
this time, and, like the third angel's message,
has been fulfilled and will continue to be
present truth till the close of time. In the
parable, the ten virgins had lamps, but only five
of them had the saving oil with which to keep
their lamps burning. This represents the
condition of the Church. The wise and the foolish
have their Bibles, and are provided with all the
means of grace but many do not appreciate the
fact that they must have the heavenly unction.
They do not heed the invitation, "Come unto me,
all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will
give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn
of me for I am meek and lowly in heart and ye
shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is
easy, and my burden is light."

What represents the Southern Kingdom 677bc-1844?
  • Millers Works, volume 2, 261. Seven times, in
Nebuchadnezzars dream, was fulfilled in seven
years. Nebuchadnezzar, for his pride and
arrogancy against God, was driven among the
beasts of the field, and was made to eat grass as
oxen, until seven times passed over him, and
until he learned that the Most High ruled in the
kingdoms of men, and gave it to whomsoever he
would. This being a matter of history, and as an
allegory or sample to the people of God for their
pride and arrogancy, in refusing to be reformed
by God, and claiming the power and will to do
    these things themselves,they, too, like
Nebuchadnezzar, must be driven among the beasts
of the field, (meaning the kingdoms of the
world,) until they learn the sovereignty of God,
and that he dispenses his favors to whomsoever he
will. That, being a matter of history, and a
sample only, was fulfilled in seven years but
this, being a prophecy, will only be fulfilled in
seven prophetic times, which will be 7 times 360
years, which will make 2520 years.

23
Who did God use to scatter His people?
  • PP 467.1 By the Spirit of Inspiration, looking
far down the ages, Moses pictured the terrible
scenes of Israel's final overthrow as a nation,
and the destruction of Jerusalem by the armies of
Rome "The Lord shall bring a nation against thee
from far, from the end of the earth, as swift as
the eagle flieth a nation whose tongue thou
shalt not understand a nation of fierce
countenance, which shall not regard the person of
the old, nor show favor to the young."

Did Israel humble themselves?
  • RH Feb. 9, 1897 / Vol 4 BC 1172.5 Daniel's
example of prayer and confession is given for our
instruction and encouragement. For nearly seventy
years, Israel had been in captivity. The land
which God had chosen for His own possession was
given into the hands of the heathen Faithful men
who knew of the former glory were filled with
anguish at the desolation of the holy house that
had distinguished Israel as God's chosen people.
These men had been witnesses to the denunciations
of God because of the sins of His people. They
had been witnesses to the fulfilment of this
word. They had been witnesses also to the
promises of His favor if Israel would return to
God, and walk circumspectly before Him. Daniel
knew that the appointed time for Israel's
captivity was nearly ended but he did not feel
that because God had promised to deliver them,
they themselves had no part to act. With fasting
and contrition he sought the Lord, confessing his
own sins and the sins of the people.

27
What does 2520 mean for us today?
  • PP 301.1 Soon after the encampment at Sinai,
Moses was called up into the mountain to meet
with God. Alone he climbed the steep and rugged
path, and drew near to the cloud that marked the

28
What does 2520 mean for us today?
  • EW 74 September 23, the Lord showed me that He
had stretched out His hand the second time to
recover the remnant of His people, and that
efforts must be redoubled in this gathering time.
In the scattering, Israel was smitten and torn,
but now in the gathering time God will heal and
bind up His people. In the scattering, efforts
made to spread the truth had but little effect,
accomplished but little or nothing but in the
gathering, when God has set His hand to gather
His people, efforts to spread the truth will have
their designed effect. All should be united and
zealous in the work. I saw that it was wrong for
any to refer to the scattering for examples to
govern us now in the gathering for if God should
do no more for us now than He did then, Israel
would never be gathered. I have seen that the
1843 chart was directed by the hand of the Lord,
and that it should not be altered that the
figures were as He wanted them that His hand was
over and hid a mistake in some of the figures, so
that none could see it, until His hand was
    removed.

29
What does 2520 mean for us today?
  • RH.1897 Mar 2nd .5 / Testimonies to Ministers 507
  • Many have in a great measure failed to receive
the former rain. They have not obtained all the
benefits that God has thus provided for them.
They expect that the lack will be supplied by the
latter rain. When the richest abundance of grace
shall be bestowed, they intend to open their
hearts to receive it. They are making a terrible
mistake. The work that God has begun in the human
heart in giving his light and knowledge, must be
continually going forward. Every individual must
realize his own necessity. The heart must be
emptied of every defilement, and cleansed for the
indwelling of the Spirit. It was by the
confession and forsaking of sin, by earnest
prayer and consecration of themselves to God,
that the early disciples prepared for the
outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the day of
Pentecost. The same work, only in greater degree,
must be done now. Then the human agent had only
to ask for the blessing, and wait for the Lord to
perfect the work concerning him. It is God who
began the work, and he will finish his work,
making man complete in Jesus Christ. But there
must be no neglect of the grace represented by
the former rain. Only those who are living up to
the light they have, will receive greater light.
Unless we are daily advancing in the
exemplification of the active Christian virtues,
we shall not recognize the manifestations of the
Holy Spirit in the latter rain. It may be falling
on hearts all around us, but we shall not discern
    or receive it.

30
What does 2520 mean for us today?
  • RH.1890 Aug 19th .5 Jesus desires to efface the
image of the earthly from the minds of his
followers, and to impress upon them the image of
the heavenly, that they may become one with
himself, reflecting his character, and showing
forth the praises of him who hath called them out
of darkness into his marvelous light. If you have
been permitted to stand in the presence of the
Sun of Righteousness, it is not that you may
absorb and conceal the bright beams of Christ's
righteousness, but that you may become a light to
others. The enemy has men in our ranks through
whom he works, that the light which God has
permitted to shine upon the heart an illuminate
the chambers of the mind may be darkened. There
are persons who have received the precious light
of the righteousness of Christ, but they do not
act upon it they are foolish virgins. They
prefer the sophistry of the enemy rather than the
plain "Thus saith the Lord." When the blessing of
God rested upon them in order that they might
become channels of light, they did not go forward
from light to a greater light they permitted
doubt and unbelief to come in, so that the truth
which they had seen, became an uncertainty to
    them.

31
What does 2520 mean for us today?
  • RH.1890 Aug 19th .6 Satan uses those who claim
to believe the truth, but whose light has become
darkness, as his mediums to utter his falsehoods
and transmit his darkness. They are foolish
virgins indeed, choosing darkness rather than
light, and dishonoring God. The character we
cultivate, the attitude we assume to-day, is
fixing our future destiny. We are all making a
choice, either to be with the blessed, inside the
city of light, or to be with the wicked, outside
the city. The principles which govern our actions
on earth are known in heaven, and our deeds are
faithfully chronicled in the books or record. It
is there known whether our characters are after
the order of Christ or the order of the
arch-deceiver who caused rebellion in heaven. Are
we wise virgins, or must we be classed among the
foolish? This is the question which we are
deciding to-day by our character and attitude.
That which passes with many for the religion of
Christ, is made up of ideas and theories, a
    mixture of truth and error.
