Title: 22nd Sunday

1
22nd Sunday
  • Ordinary Time (C)

2
  • The danger of self-righteousness

3
  • St. John of the Cross lists 3 great dangers for
    seemingly good Christians.
  • Pride / Self-righteousness
  • Sensuality
  • Spiritual Avarice

4
  • Sensuality It goes together with anger,
    detraction, or a sexual sin.
  • Spiritual Avarice constantly craving of hearing
counsels, or learning spiritual maxims, and
reading books about them. However, their life of
virtue is still wanting. Its goes together with
    Spiritual Envy.

5
Pride / Self-righteousness
  • - Over-confidence of ones goodness leading to
    disrespect of others
  • - Pharisaism
  • - Easily getting angry at less fervent
    Christians.
  • Lives a good moral life even very generous.
  • Never see their own faults.
  • Blame others for their problems.
  • Not honest with themselves.
  • Lack of genuine love for others.

6
  • Pride lurks in every mans heart, and the desire
to be favored over others is always a temptation.
  • And so the Lord during this Sunday is reminding
us to be HUMBLE in every way.

7
  • Let us be reminded of these things
  • We are all unworthy in front of God.
  • No one can claim a right to receive grace /
    favors from God.
  • If you wish to find favor with God, you must be
    poor, small, and lowly.

8
  • Our life of faith is indeed a paradox.
  • To be first, we must be the last.
  • To be the greatest, we must be the least (in the
    eyes of men).
  • To be mature in faith, we must be like little
    children.
  • To be exalted, we must humble.
