Title: Invitation For The Saved

1
Invitation For The Saved?
  • Jesus calls those who think they are saved to
    repentance

2
Introduction
  • Our God is so very merciful and longsuffering.
  • Man sins and Jesus invites him to receive Gods
    salvation.
  • Even as a child of God continues to sin not
continuing in sin Gods longsuffering allows
Jesus to invite the erring child to receive Gods
    forgiveness.

3
Introduction
  • Such was the case for the church at Laodicea.
  • These lost sinners became members of the saved
    household of God.
  • Now, many within the church are on the brink
eternal damnation and need the Lords invitation
for repentance before they lose their souls.

4
In Jeopardy and Not Knowing it
  • The church at Laodicea thought to be in good
standing with the Lord. Rev. 317
  • They believed themselves to be rich very busy in
the affairs of this life to gain such status.
  • They thought themselves to be in need of nothing,
as they took good care of themselves.
  • In other words, the outward appearance of the
church was that all was well and that was how
    they would describe their condition.

5
In Jeopardy and Not Knowing it
  • They did not realize the spiritual condition of
    their eternal souls. Rev. 317
  • They were a spiritually stagnant group of
    believers.
  • They are spiritually poor, wretched and miserable
    (pitiful).
  • Ultimately they are poor, blind, and naked.

6
In Jeopardy and Not Knowing it
  • They did not realize that there was currently no
fellowship with their Lord. Rev. 320
  • They did not realize that Jesus was on the other
    side of the door.
  • They do not realize He was not dining with them.
cp. Matt. 811 (Isa. 256 Prov. 91-6) Rev.
    197ff
  • Ultimately, because of their unfaithful walk,
they (in their current state) did not have
    fellowship with our Lord.

7
The Solution Recognize and Receive Jesus
Invitation
  • The church needed to recognize their lost
    condition.
  • If they would recognize their spiritual condition
they would then be able to receive Jesus
    admonitions.
  • Yet, that is the very purpose of Christs
invitation to shed light on their darkness! Rev.
    318

8
The Solution Recognize and Receive Jesus
Invitation
  • Jesus exhortation for them to be filled with
    spiritual excitement.
  • Jesus did not want them to be luke-warm, but on
    fire for Him.
  • He wanted them to spiritually labor, that they
would be spiritually able to buy the true riches
    Jesus offered them. Rev. 318

9
The Solution Recognize and Receive Jesus
Invitation
  • Their souls were in jeopardy, hence Jesus loving
    chastisement. Rev. 319
  • Jesus loves those who originally gave their lives
    over to Him.
  • He wants the saved to continue in their
    fellowship with Him.
  • Those who hear His voice and His knock (his
chastisement) and opens up to receive Him (and
His loving rebuke) would be saved.

10
Conclusion
  • What is true of the church in Laodicea is true of
many churches belonging to Christ today.
  • Brethren, we must collectively take heed at our
lives in the Lord so as not to deceive ourselves
lest we be this very church Jesus condemned.
