  • There is a nice stretch of the Lone Star Trail
    from FM 945 at the beginning of the Magnolia
    Section to FM 2666 in the Tarkington Bayou
    Section. Section just north of Big Creek Scenic
    Area may be impassable if area has had heavy
    rains recently - Check w/ Sam Houston National
    Forest
  • Trail Length 15 miles
  • Start FM 945 just S of TX 150
  • End FM 2666 just E of FM 2025
  • Access from Houston
  • Take FM 2025 North from Cleveland off US 59

    to Stubblefield CG just west of Lake Conroe is
    quite scenic passing through the western end of
    Sam Houston National Forest

  • Start Trailhead off FM 149 on FS 219
  • End Stubblefield CG
  • Access from Houston
  • Take I-45 north, then FM 1375 west then FM 149
    north west to trailhead

  • A trail runs west from the Birch Creek unit on
    the north side of Lake Somerville around the
    western end of the lake crossing Yegua Creek and
    then follows the south shore of the lake back
    east to the Nails Creek unit of Lake Somerville
    State Park
  • Trail Length 15 miles
  • Start Trailhead in Birch Creek Unit
  • End Nails Creek Unit
  • Access from Houston
  • Take US-290 northwest, then US 36 north to Lyons,
    then FM 60 west to SP Road 57, which goes south
    to the Birch Creek unit entrance
