Backpacking - Lone Star Trail Double Lake Area

• Trip Description
• There is a nice stretch of the Lone Star Trail
  from FM 945 at the beginning of the Magnolia
  Section to FM 2666 in the Tarkington Bayou
  Section. Section just north of Big Creek Scenic
  Area may be impassable if area has had heavy
  rains recently - Check w/ Sam Houston National
  Forest
• Trail Length 15 miles
• Start FM 945 just S of TX 150
• End FM 2666 just E of FM 2025
• Access from Houston
• Take FM 2025 North from Cleveland off US 59
• Past Visits
• Troop 80 2000/2001
• Age/Health requirements - Easy 2 day trip for
  older (13) Scouts Shorter sections suitable for
  younger Scouts w/ adequate equipment

• Trip Description
• The beginning 20 miles of the Lone Star Trail
  from just east of Richards, TX off FM 149FM 945
  to Stubblefield CG just west of Lake Conroe is
  quite scenic passing through the western end of
  Sam Houston National Forest
• Trail Length 20 miles
• Start Trailhead off FM 149 on FS 219
• End Stubblefield CG
• Access from Houston
• Take I-45 north, then FM 1375 west then FM 149
  north west to trailhead
• Past Visits

• Age/Health requirements - Easy 2 day trip for

• The Turkey Creek Unit runs north-south along
  Turkey Creek north of the Big Thicket National
  Preserve Visitor Center on FM 420 just east of US
  69
• Trail Length 16 miles
• Start Trailhead off FM 1943 east of US 69
• End Big Thicket NP Visitor Center on FM 420
• Access from Houston
• Take I-10 east, then US 69 northwest then FM
  1943 east to trailhead

Backpacking West End Lake Somerville

• Trip Description
• A trail runs west from the Birch Creek unit on
  the north side of Lake Somerville around the
  western end of the lake crossing Yegua Creek and
  then follows the south shore of the lake back
  east to the Nails Creek unit of Lake Somerville
  State Park
• Trail Length 15 miles
• Start Trailhead in Birch Creek Unit
• End Nails Creek Unit
• Access from Houston
• Take US-290 northwest, then US 36 north to Lyons,
  then FM 60 west to SP Road 57, which goes south
  to the Birch Creek unit entrance
