  • Section 05, 07 Velvet Preston
  • Section 10 Larry Bowen
  • Section 12, 16 Usha Midkiff
  • Sections 14 Eileen Katz

3
Math 110 is a terminal course
  • Math 110 is not a prerequisite for Math 112 and
if your major requires 112 you should take 100
    and not 110.
  • If you need 112, drop MA110 and add MA100

4
Course Requirements
  • Prerequisites
  • Grade of C or better in Math 100
  • Minimum of 250 (25) on the placement test
  • Every student must have an active bama e-mail
account to register for the course.
  • Every student must have a NEW access code unless
    you took the course previously.

5
Access Codes
  • Every student must have a new access code to
access to the publishers online website where
    assignments can be completed.
  • An access code gives you access to the
mylabsenterprise website where you will find your
    assignments.
  • The code gives you access to an online textbook,
video lectures, examples of assignments and many
more useful tools to help you be successful in
    this course.

6
Access Codes
  • Access codes may be purchased with or without a
    printed version of the textbook.
  • You may purchase the code with the textbook at
any of the bookstores in town.
  • You may purchase the code without a printed
version of the book either at one of the
bookstores in town or online on the
mylabsenterprise website set up for your specific
    math course.
  • Again, no work can be completed until you have
entered your access code into your account.

7
Access Codes Repeating Students
  • If you are repeating the course, then you should
be able to log in to the new course by
    automatically re-activating your previous access
code. If you have any trouble, then be sure to
come to the MTLC for assistance.

8
Course Grades
  • Possible grades in this course are A, B, C (/-)
    or NC.
  • A grade of NC means you receive no credit for
this course. You must take the course again, but
an NC does not affect your GPA.
  • The last day to withdraw from the course is
Wednesday, March 25. No withdrawals will be
    given after this date.

2007

  • Passing rate 98.2
  • 4 or more absences
  • Passing rate 43.59

Quizzes Homeworks
  • There will be homework assignments for each
section and they will be graded. Multiple
attempts are allowed on homework. Be sure to
click on the Save button when you are ready to
record your homework score. You may submit
homework before the assignment is finished and
    return to it later.
  • There will be a quiz given after each section.
Click on the Submit button when ready for your
quiz score to be recorded. Only two attempts are
    allowed on quizzes.
  • You will be allowed to drop one lowest homework
grade and one lowest quiz grade each test period.
Makeup work may be allowed. To request
permission to make up work students must fill out
a petition form in Room 345 Gordon Palmer.

15
Quizzes Homeworks
  • Homework is worth 17 points each test period.
  • Quizzes are worth 40 points each test period.
  • A quiz is worth more than twice a homework. So
    prepare accordingly.
  • Homework deadline is at noon and quiz deadline is
at 1 pm on the due date or completion date.

16
Lab Hours
  • Students need to spend a minimum of 3 hours a
week in the MTLC doing work. Time spent working
on the computer, reviewing for tests, and
attending help sessions count toward your hours.
  • Students will earn 3 points a week toward the lab
attendance grade for meeting this requirement.
  • Lab attendance points will also be given if each
assignment (homework and quiz) for the week is
completed with a grade of 70 or higher by the
    given deadline.

17
Lab Hours
  • In the example below, Student 1 and Student 2
must spend three hours in the lab to receive
    points for the week.

18
Lab Attendance Points
  • Partial points can be earned on lab hours.
  • Every time you enter or exit the MTLC lab
the monitor will swipe your ID card even if you
exit for a short time. Anyone caught swiping
another students ID will be charged with
    academic misconduct.

19
Lab Attendance
  • If you miss any assignment for the week then your
lab attendance is automatically based on your
actual hours in the MTLC for the week. This is
due to the fact that one of your assignment grade
would be below 70. This is true even if you are
planning on using your missed assignment as one
    of your drop grades.

20
Testing Procedures
  • Tests days are shown on the front page of your
    syllabus.
  • You will need to register for a test time during
a test registration week as noted on the front
page of your syllabus. Details will be discussed
later in class as test 1 gets near.
  • There are penalties for failure to register on
time. Read test rules on syllabus for more
    information.

21
Replacement Policy
  • Everyone will be allowed to replace his or her
lowest test grade with the grade made on the
    final exam.
  • Zero grades due to unexcused absences or academic
    misconduct will not be replaced.
  • If a test is missed due to a serious, verifiable
circumstance, the zero test grade will also be
replaced with the final exam grade, but only if a
petition request form is filed within 2 days and
if the petition request panel approves the
    excuse.
  • Go to Room 345 Gordon Palmer to fill a petition
    form.

22
Acknowledgement Form
  • An acknowledgement form stating that you have
read the syllabus and understand the policies set
by this course must be completed before you will
be allowed to do any assignments. You must
complete it with a score of a 100.
  • Click on Test 1 Work - Orientation in the math
software to fill out this form

23
Syllabus Quiz
  • Must be taken in the lab.
  • The Syllabus quiz (due Fri. 1/16 by 1 pm for all
classes) contains questions about the syllabus.
  • You may take this quiz (and only this quiz) as
many times as you like, and you may have your
syllabus with you when you take it.
  • The purpose of the quiz is to make sure that you
understand the policies set out in the syllabus
should it become necessary to refer to them
later, so take this quiz very seriously.
