Anti-Semitism

• The Nazis claimed that the Germanic people, the
  Aryans, were the master race. Everyone else was
  inferior.
• Jews were commonly blamed and persecuted in
  European history. Nazis blamed their failures on
  them. They blamed the defeat in WW1 and their
  poor economy on the Jews.
• Nazis passed laws to persecute Jews by
• Passing laws to forbid Jews from holding public
  office
• Depriving Jews from German citizenship, jobs,
  property (Nuremburg Laws)
• Made them wear a yellow star attached to their
  clothing

Refugees

• 1939 many left Germany, but many stayed, and many
  more were in the conquered territories by Hitler
• First, Hitler wanted the Jews to emigrate from
  Germany, but other countries would not take them.
• Germanys foreign minister said, We all want to
  get rid of our Jews. The difficulty is that no
  country wishes to receive them.

  in Poland
• Closed off with barbed wire and stone walls
• Wanted the Jews inside to starve
• Jews tried to live life normally in the ghettos
  and keep traditions

• Hitler was impatient for Jews to starve and die
• Started the Final Solution, which was genocide,
  the killing of an entire people
• Wanted a pure Aryan race, so killed the
  subhumans

Mass Killings

• Hitler sent the SS, his security force, and other
  collaborators to hunt down all Jews and shoot
  them.
• Those that werent taken by the SS were taken to
  concentration camps in Germany and Poland, and
  other countries

• Prisoners worked all week for SS
• Beat and killed
• Very little food, lost 50 pounds in the first
  month. Most starved to death

Mass Extermination

• 1942Nazis built gas chambers to kill them in
  death camps. Gas chambers in the camps killed
  6,000 people a day.
• Separated the weak and strong. The weak were
  chosen to die.
• Brought them into a fake showerroom and poisoned
  with cyanide gas

  Holocaust

• One survivor was Elie Wiesel who wrote of his
  experience in the Auschwitz camp
