• Vena Cava the two large veins that fill the
  right atrium of the mammalian heart with
  oxygen-poor blood from the head and body.
• Aorta the largest blood vessel in the body,
  which transports oxygen-rich blood from the left
  ventricle to the arteries.

• Atria the two upper chambers of the mammalian
  heart through which blood enters.
• Ventricle the two lower chambers of the
  mammalian heart, which receive blood from the
  atria and send it to the lungs and arteries.

• Pulmonary Artery the artery, which transports
  oxygen-poor blood from the right ventricle to the
  lungs.
• Pulmonary Vein the vein, which transports
  oxygen-rich blood from the lungs to the left
  atrium.

• Visceral Pericardium the membrane that covers
  the external heart surface.
• Myocardium the layer of the heart composed of
  cardiac muscle that actually contracts. It forms
  the bulk of the heart.

• Apex the inferior point of the heart that
  points toward the left hip.
• Tricuspid Valve the valve located between the
  right atrium and the right ventricle that
  prevents blood from flowing back into the atrium
  when the ventricle contracts.

• Bicuspid Valve (mitral) the valve located
  between the left atrium and the left ventricle
  that prevents blood from flowing back into the
  atrium when the ventricle contracts.
• Semilunar Valve the valves that prevent the
  blood from returning to the ventricles after
  contraction.
