Before the exam Think about
  • Registering Go direct to the area outside the
    Library at 8.50 and 1.30. Line up in alphabetical
    order in your test groups until you are allowed
    into the Salcombe Block.
  • Your room is the same for all exams except Mental
    Mathematics Test.
  • Decide where to leave your coats/bags
  • Mobile phones etc - YOU MUST NOT HAVE THEM IN
    EXAM ROOMS AT ALL

Before the exam Think about
  • Are you in the right group? Dont just follow
    friends. Lists will be posted on test classroom
    doors and on tutor group notice boards.
  • Have you got the right equipment e.g. pens,
    Maths instruments?
  • Do you need (allowed) a calculator?

Before the exam Think about
  • Food and drink are NOT ALLOWED in the room.
  • You are NOT allowed Tippex or ink erasers.
  • Enter the test room IN SILENCE.
  • Sit in the seat you are told to. You will
    normally sit in alphabetical order.

Getting started
  • You must remain silent while in exam room
  • If you need any help put up your hand and wait.
  • Never call out or turn around in your seat.
  • Check you are given the right paper- Level,
    Subject.
  • Listen to the instructions you are given and read
    the front of the paper

  • During the exam you can ask what you are supposed
    to do. You cannot ask for help in answering the
    questions!
  • Here are some examples

  • I dont understand the question on the
    reading paper.
  • Read the question again and underline key
    words that tell you what to do.
  • What do I have to do on the writing paper?
  • The writing in bold at the bottom of the
    page tells you what you need to do for the
    task.

  • Do I have to base my answer to the
    Shakespeare paper on both extracts?
  • Yes. You will lose marks if you base your
    answer on one extract.
  • How do I spell quickly?
  • I cant tell you how to spell it, but have a
    go at sounding it out and write that down.

  • What does give a reason mean?
  • It means you have to say why you think it
    works out like that.
  • What does quadrilateral mean?
  • I cant tell you, but think hard and try to
    remember.

Getting started
  • Check how long you have to do the test
  • There will be a clock in the room.
  • At the end of the test, stop writing IMMEDIATELY.
  • Stay in silence!

At the end
  • You will be given time checks and a five-minute
    warning before the end of the test.
  • Make sure that all the information needed on the
    front of the paper has been filled in
  • Stay in silence until you are out of the exam room

After the exam
  • Dont dwell on what happened. Move on, and dont
    spend all your time talking about the questions
    you answered.
  • Make sure that you have plenty of time to eat and
    relax at lunchtime, before the afternoon exam.
  • Each day, remind yourself of all the good things
    you have done
  • Remember each day done is one day less before
    the exams are over!!!
